Juve deny Didier quit claims
Saturday 26 May, 2007
Juventus have officially denied that Didier Deschamps has offered his resignation, but remain vague on the tactician’s future.
The report of a Friday night dismissal came from Sky TG24 after midnight and hit the front pages of all the Italian sports papers this morning.
In the early afternoon, the club finally responded to the suggestions that their Coach had quit after failing to negotiate a contract extension.
“The club has not received any communication of Didier Deschamps’ resignation,” read a statement on the Juventus website.
“Therefore the Coach will be on the bench for today’s game against Mantova.”
Yet the timing and the wording of the statement suggest there is more to it, as this was only released after a meeting in Turin this morning between director Jean Claude Blanc, President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, director of sport Alessio Secco and Roberto Bettega.
“Blanc will continue his meetings, already started during the week, to rapidly clarify the situation with Deschamps,” added the official note.
