The Montreal Canadiens have acquired centre Scott Gomez, winger Tom Pyatt and defenceman Mike Busto from the New York Rangers in exchange for winger Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from the Montreal Canadiens.
What the hell are you guys doing?

Gomez is overrated as hell and doesn't deserve a first rate deal.

Agreed, although Higgins seems like a good character, a decent point producer, and that salary of his represents excellent value.

Gomez could end up rebounding and being a very solid contributor - at this point, with the guys you have under contract, he would probably be your top scorer.

7.3M/per though? That is an absolutely ridiculous number. Who would you choose, Heatley at about 7.5, or Gomez? Because with that package, you could have most likely had Heatley at roughly the same numbers...
Heatley, even though he's a douche.

Oh, no question about it. No respect for the way he handled himself recently with that trade request, but because I really don't like the Sens, I'm willing to overlook it. :p

Seriously though, considering the season the Sens had with Hartsburgh (how the fuck did they not fire him 25+ games earlier), his dislike for the new coach, and the fact that the Sens did need to move one of those big contracts, I'm not surprised he wanted out. That team is miles away from contention right now, saddled with those deals.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Heatley scores around 50 next season. I expect him to rebound, 100% in new surroundings. Gomez, I just don't think he was ever worth the money to begin with. With the numbers Heatley had put up, I thought his contract was in line with a lot of others around the league...

So let me get this straight.

The Canadiens take on Gomez' salary, give up an elite prospect in the deal, and in turn the Rangers could end up signing Komisarek as well.

    Oh, that's just rich

Hey Bob, why not just fire Trevor Timmins while you're at it

"Hey Trevor, I know that you are widely regarded as one of the best drafters in the NHL, but since I want all the credit, I'm going to have to let you go"
