@Vinman - Sabres v. Hurricanes, Buffalo v. Raleigh. Aren't we now supposed to make one of those queer bets where:
If Buffalo wins, I have to send you a ton of genuine North Carolina Barbeque, and
If Carolina wins, You have to send me some Buffalo-style Chicken wings and a Hooters girl.

Sweden seal historic world title

Olympic champions Sweden thrashed holders the Czech Republic 4-0 to win the World Championship on Sunday.

Sweden became the first country to win both the world and Olympic titles in the same year with their impressive victory in Riga, Latvia.

Jesper Mattsson and Fredrik Emvall scored goals 37 seconds apart in the first period before Niklas Kronwall and Jorgen Jonsson added two more.

Finland earlier crushed Canada 5-0 to take third place.

"It's fun to be part of hockey history," said Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson. "It's been great working with these guys and my staff.

"I think we played more or less a perfect game today. After taking a 2-0 lead we had a good control of the game."

Kronwall, one of four players from the Detroit Red Wings in Sweden's squad, was named as the most valuable player in the tournament.

"It's flattering, but it's a team effort," said Kronwall.

"In my opinion, (Sweden defender) Kenny Jonsson should have that award, but it is what it is and I'm happy to be where I'm at right now.

"We're going to celebrate this tonight here in Riga. Tomorrow we're chartering a plane to go back to Stockholm to celebrate with the people."

that sounds like a bet !!

although, you could probably find a much better looking Hooters girl in Raleigh, than you would in Buffalo

The Leafs signed some big names like Kubina, Peca, and Raycroft. The problem is they have a minute amount of spendature ($2.75.....million :D) to purchase three more players.

i really think they should have re-signed luke richardson. he is a strong vet. and for only 750,000 a year, why not? up front they just need some fine tuning. a good veteran forward to go along with all the young guys they have now. like kilger and stajan and wellwood. this is a better team then last year.

Of course it's a better team then last year. Any team would benefit without having Lindros, Domi, and Belfour on the team. Still, no promise of making the playoffs.

It's crunch time in the NHL... trade deadline is getting close(27th)...my Habs are 2 points of being out of the playoffs and 3 points out of 3rd ...very tight race in the east...what does your team needs to make the playoffs or win the Stanley Cup?

We need a freakin' Centerman and a solid D. I'd go for Philly's Peter Forsberg and Chicago's Adrian Aucoin. We've been rumored to get Shane Doan also.

Stanley Cup final prediction: Ducks of Anaheim vs Buffalo Sabres. Ducks in 6.

oh yeah, who cares about Hockey right?

A freakin' miracle. :D

The Leafs have a solid defence, or so I like to think, and Colaiacovo has impressed big time. Kaberle is awesome, Kubina has been alright, Hal Gill is a joke, and McCabe is the biggest disappointment by far. He's made many mistakes that have cost the Leafs points. Goaltending is a hot-and-cold issue, as Raycroft sometimes plays like garbage, while other times he's the Calder Trophy winner he was with the Bruins (the save against Guerin of the Blues this week was awesome, admit it).

Considering the amount of injuries the Leafs have had, I think they're doing quite well offensively now that Antropov and Ponikarovsky have returned to the first line with Sundin. John Pohl is not too bad considering he played for the Marlies all last year until the Leafs' last-minute attempt to make the playoffs. I'm still waiting for Tucker and Wellwood to return; unfortunately (but not for the Habs and yourself), I think that it'll be too late.

I don't really think the Leafs can purchase anyone that will make an immediate impact and help them in the playoff race because Paul Maurice juggles too much with the lineup that there's no chemistry between anyone besides the first line. If they were to pick up Roberts from the Panthers, it could probably help in terms of moral, and he's a decent finisher even at the age of 40. I would like to see him retire as a Leaf, and letting him book was a big mistake in Ferguson's part.

If the Leafs don't make the playoffs this year, I'm 100% positive that they'll fire John Ferguson Jr., which I'm absolutely dying for. Oh well, there's always next season...jeeze, my dad has been saying that for the past 39 years. :D

The Habs, ah the Habs. I don't know what to say. I'd rather them win the Stanley Cup than some team from the deep South or SoCal, or even Pittsburgh for that matter. Here's a team that bottoms out three seasons in a row and signs 3 solid draft picks in Crosby, Staal, and Malkin. I don't approve of that, no matter how good it is for the "new" NHL.

Speaking of the new NHL, I love how (Anaheim GM) Brian Burke was the first to speak out against playing more games against the Eastern Conference: the Ducks' division is usually weak barring San Jose, meanwhile we're in a division that I believe is the hardest in the NHL (Boston, Ottawa, Montreal, Buffalo, Toronto). The refereeing this year is horrible as well.

Oh, and an interesting nugget of information for any forum member: Toronto Maple Leafs' defenceman Tomas Kaberle is a self-professed Juventus fan. I remember reading this when I was younger from a player profile in the Leafs official yearbook. Dig that!

EDIT: Let's try and keep this thread alive down the stretch, man.

+ rep for that post. ;)

Roberts was a MONSTER with the leafs and would bring some leadership to any team. I hate Tucker but he's a guy that any team would love to have.(We had him but he was a bad boy, Corson too). :D I think you'll make the playoffs, screw the pens. Is it me or the leagues wants them to make it? We got robbed I don't know many times by the refs in the last couple of games. I'd love to have Crosby in my team but what a little whiner. You don't even touch him and he goes down like Claude Lemieux or something. :p

Respect for Tomas.

Thank you. I really don't like Tucker that much either, but Paul Maurice's tactics seem to suit him. He just sits at the right side of the net and waits for someone to feed him the puck. He scores goals, so it's not so bad. The Leafs had Shane Corson too, we picked him up from you guys, and he served well with Tucker and Travis Green (who recently returned this season) way back in the day.

Personally, I think this ref deal is a conspiracy. :p The Canadian and Northern States' teams don't need much of a market boost, so the refs are swaying towards the teams with less of a fanbase. I'm absolutely ridiculous, eh? :D

Who wouldn't want Crosby, but yeah I agree that he's acting like a baby. The NHL crunched down on clutching and grabbing for players like him, and he still cheats the system. I think the Habs would benefit from a player like Aucoin for your blueline, but good luck luring away a team captain. For a centre, you could probably try and get Perreault back from the Coyotes. It probably wouldn't be too hard to do, considering Phoenix's situation. He's a great 2nd-line centreman, the best face-off winner from what I remember. Or you could get someone like Doug Weight for the rest of the season if the Blues want to give him a chance to win a Cup. I recommend Perreault personally. :D

And you found it...nice!

Tomas Kaberle is a Juventino?

I've always considered him to be one of the most smooth defensemen in the game. My Red Wings should snap him up and make him the replacement for Lidstrom in a couple years.
