Someone please tell BOb Gainey that Taylor Hall is NOT a Francophone, so stop trying to sabotage this team for the sake of getting the #1 pick next year

Holy fuck. This is why you can't go into free agency with so many vacancies - everyone knows how desperate you are, and you lose all leverage.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but after the lock out season, Boston had basically nobody under contract. As a fan, I went through this first hand, and we all saw how well that worked out for the B's. Zhamnov and that fucking 4 year 16 M deal was a perfect example of overpaying for solid players due to lack of leverage. His injuries made that a total disaster.

Edit: At least the Spacek deal is only a 3 year deal.

My point of contention is that if you are going to pay a 35 year old defenseman 4 million a year to be a power play guy, why not let someone who is a clone of what you had before (Weber) , who is 15 years younger at 1/8 of the salary try for that spot???

Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Mark, I can't beleive you actually agree with this move

Not a fan of the 3.8m. He's better defensively than Weber but I would have gone for a tougher D and Beauchemin.
But Weber is only 20 years old and could develop into a wicked Power Play QB.

I don't remember anyone complaining about the lack of defensive prowess of Souray and Streit.

I'm sorry, I hate this move. I just hate it.

I completely agree, man. It gets to the point where you realize that in all likelihood, the playoffs are going to be out of reach. Even if you slip in, you're not advancing. So why not let the youngsters have a rip? Why not focus on other positions (tons of needs on this team), or save some of your cap room until the next offseason...

If Spacek wasn't quite that age, and didn't represent a lot of the same characteristics that you already have, then it's easier to justify the deal...

Edmonton just signed Khabibulin for 3.75 per over 4 years. I like it. If they can convince Heatley (which it doesn't look like they can), that would be a couple major acquisitions.

Oh, and to think that at the beginning of the season last year more than a few publications had the Canadiens going to the Stanley Cup

our defense so far:

Markov-*********
Hamrlik-Gorges
Spacek-*****

There's a place for Weber/Subban and Beauchemin/Scuderi/Boynton.

The Blackhawks also took one of our players, Tomas Kopecky. He isn't that great of a player to worry about.

Looks like for us it will be:

    Holmstrom - Datysuk - Filppula

    Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary

    Hudler - Helm - Leino

    Abdelcader - Draper - Maltby

    Lidstrom - Rafalski

    Kronwall - Lebda

    Ericsson - Stuart

    Osgood
    Howard

That's assuming we resign Hudler and Leino. Sammy will probably be gone.

As of right now, post your most probable lines for next season.

Dude, I honestly can't right now, but I will try, and this is assuming that Montreal loses kovalev, tanguay, and Koivu.

    Here goes.

    A. Kostitsyn-Gomez-Latendresse
    S.Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Pacioretty
    Stewart-Lapierre-D'Agostini
    Kostopolous-Metropolit-Laraque

    My god, that is awful
