I don't understand how players don't want to play in one of the best cities in the world, with some of the greatest strip joints this side of Paris

Not at all, Montador is pretty solid, and 1.5/per is a nice number. Wonder if my team will hit the market today...

That is a massive term for Hossa. 12 years? signed until he's 41... jesus. Wasn't expecting that from the Hawks at all. They've got so many youngsters that they'll need to lock down in the next few years...

Don't really like the move for the Sedin twins in Vancouver, but considering it's half the length and dollars of the original proposal, it's not a completely terrible move. Does seem like maintaining the status quo, but they do still have quite a bit of flex.

Where's Bob Gainey today? Don't tell me he spent the last few weeks planning his Gomez coup... :p

There is no doubt that Gomez is a better player than Higgins. I just hate the contract that they got saddled with as well as the fact they gave up McDonagh to get him. There was no need to give up a prospect like that when you are taking on such a high salary.

At least they have another 27 million to spend, and they better spend it soon.

You say that, but they got a consistent 35-40 goal scorer at a good price per year.

Say what you want about the length of the contract, but chances are he'll be bought out well before that contract is finished.

Granted, I don't like him, but the average salary that he is geting comapred to Gomez just makes me want to vomit
Hey, not my fault you signed an over-priced player in Gomez.

100% Gomez is better than Higgins. Other than that... well, we won't rehash.

I'm just surprised that the contingency plans seem so sketchy. This is obviously a nightmare for Canadians fans... even I have difficulty taking joy in it.

How can you let Souray, Streit, and Komisarek walk for nothing in successive years? Once you've basically done that (still the outside shot at Komisarek), how can you trade away what are basically your best two defensive prospects? WTF?

Where do the Canadians go from here? With the position that Montreal is in, you knew they'd almost surely have to fire out one of those ridiculously long term deals if they were going to get a premiere player on this market... at least something in the 7 year range. Now it seems like they've filled what should basically be a top salary slot with an undersized, second line center.

Gainey better get cracking soon, or you guys will be picking off the scrap heap. Hard to convince players to sign in Montreal, if there is such a weak supporting cast.

Although McDonagh was probably our best prospect, Valentenko was most certainly not our 2nd best, as far as defensemen go. He's a big dude who plays a physical game, but you have to remember that he is currently in the KHL, and who knows if he will ever come back.

The thing is, Montreal still has some really good defensive prospects such as Yannick Weber, Matthieu Carle, P.K. Subban, and David Fischer.

The problem with them is they are all "offensive defensemen", whereas MCdonagh had a chance to be a 2-way defenseman

And lets not forget the Hawks have to start resigning all their youngsters next season. Kane, Toews and Keith are all free agents next year. Moreover, there are signs the cap will be lowered, so they can't possibly have all those guys along with Seabrook.

This really isn't the smartest of moves by the Hawks, I'm sorry.

Yeah, but they've got players coming off the book, though

In retrospect, losing Mark Streit last year had much more of a negative effect on that team than I could have ever imagined.

Their power play went from world class to recycled ass once he left.

That was a major achilles heel for them last year.

The panel at TSN is claiming that the Rangers have excellent ties into Russia, and they think the chances of bringing Valentenko to the team in the next 1-2 years are pretty good. Apparently, he wants to play in the N.

As for whether he's the second best prospect, I was definitely wrong there. I don't know your prospects very well, but I'm not sure why I keep forgetting about P.K.

Losing Mark Streit was absolutely massive. Also, 5 years for 20.5 M wouldn't look that bad (at all) right now.

    C'mon Boston, lock down Phil.
