On a note regarding the actual game last night. I think that was the first time I've ever seen this Pens team have the upper hand against the Detroit. Last year we were always battling back even in the games we won. Detroit had us on our heels so to speak. The bounce-back ability this team has shown and the stepping up of our roll players Talbot, Eaton, Letang, Staahl, Cooke, Kennedy has truly made the difference in the last two games. We didn't have that last year. Detroit is truly the best team in the league and in order to even keep things close we knew our non-stars were going to have to step up (though I consider Staahl and Letang stars of the future). Hopefully we can take this momentum to Detro' and put ourselves in a position to close the series out in the Igloo.

PS. No more friendly bounces in the Joe for fucks's sake.

Who is the greatest player in NHL History.

My vote goes to Bobby Orr.

In my opinion, he was the only player who ever created a seismic shift in how the game was played.

Followed by Gordie Howe, the greatest "two way power forward" in the NHL

Bobby Orr was amazing. I love Lidstrom and all, but I can't say Nick is better than Orr at this point. Bobby changed the game himself.

I think Lidstrom is just phoenomenal, but I feel that he, along with the other all time greats such as Doug Harvey, Larry Robinson, Ray Bourque, are all a distant second to Bobby Orr as far as defensemen

As for this entitlement and snobbery you haters say Crosby has, I haven't seen evidence of it in the playoffs. Even when every team he faces tries to constantly rough up not only Crosby, but also Malkin. Crosby doesn't react, he doesn't whine after games, he just plays. Crosby has wonderful maturity for being a 21 year old captain.

As for me, I'm a purely a Staahl man. That kid has got potential to be a great two-way player. I love that kid.

Lidstrom is the only Red Wing I kind of like besides Chelios and Osgood. I don't care who you are, you respect the kind of player and person Nick Lidstrom is.

Their scouting department is absolutely second to none. By far it is the best in the NHL and might be one of the best in all of sports.


I just don't know how they do it, how they find all of these foreign players.

They always seem to make smart trades, never go bananas in the free agent market (See N.Y. Rangers), and are constantly at or near the top every year for what seems like more than a decade now.

He also whined to the media about Ovechkin taunting him during a game, along with the famous Hatcher check in the first series. He does whine and does think he's entitled to something, IMO. And the media fawning doesn't help.

I'm not questioning anything besides saying Orr is far greater than Nick. Obviously Bobby is the best, but Nicky comes in second by neither a substantial or close margin.

Lidstrom is better than Ray Borque and Doug Harvey, IMO.

I'm not much of a Western Conference guy. Sure I respect the Red Wings franchise. But I don't really go out of my way to watch them. I generally stick to radio-Pens or whatever is on the tube, which usually means I'm being force-fed Caps games. I guess you could say I'm indifferent to the Red Wings, except Zetterberg and Hossa.

I have had to live through it every gameday watching Pittsburgh FSN for three years up in State College. Trust me, he does whine to the media, and yes it gets extremely tiring. Perhaps it's because he's always interviewed, but still, I can't stand it. It's hockey boy, man up. Don't complain about a crosscheck to the back when you give them out yourself behind the play.

I don't think the Red Wings will ever be terrible. But there might be a few years where they don't make the Finals or exit early. It happens to every major franchise. Then they bounce back.

Chances are we won't make the finals in the few years after Nicky retires. Then it's time for rebuilding. Even though Draper and Maltby have waned as players, we still have found people like Helm to step up. The core of players will always be there, but once Nicky goes, we'll have to give the keys to Ericsson and Kronwall.

Apparently we want to sign Hossa for seven years, but I'm not too hot on this deal.

These are my exact sentiments. The Penguins bombed out three years in a row, and those three years happened to be fantastic draft years. Crosby, Malkin, Staal. Fleury was a high pick too. They've done well for themselves, but only after finishing in the bottom two for like five years straight. That's what turns me off from the Penguins.

The real question is, where were all those Pens fans when they were on the brink of leaving the town for another city? That's always something that goes unanswered.

Now they pack the arena. It was only a decade ago when they were fantastic with Mario, Jagr, Francis and Nedved. What happened?

We didn't have a Cup in over three decades yet we still got a good crowd in Detroit through the early 80's and 90's.
