It doesn't exactly matter if the transfer was an awesome deal because Real obtained what they wanted... another Champions League title. And as Jem stated above, Zidane's wonderstrike in that final was worth millions and millions of pounds. Now throw in the shirt sales and other revenue from having the best player in the world on your team, then I'm fairly certain Real were happy with the deal.
People like to hate on Zidane and Real, but the former has been the best player without question since Maradona and unfortunately we know how successful the latter happens to be. They got what they wanted, we almost got what we wanted if things played out differently in 2003.

The foundation was indeed built by Sanz, but I don't think anybody can question what Zidane did for Real. Their transfer policies were of course inane and buying big name players just for the hell of it is something I never want to see Juventus persue. However, you're right regarding the way Real makes full-fledged assaults on the transfer market, as in my opinion it's also an intimidation factor. Real has the power and money to wheel deal with anybody. Unfortunately, Juventus has neither the power nor directors to do that right now.
Hence one of the reasons we might lose out on Milito. Sadly to say, if Moggi wanted Milito we would probably have him already.

that has nothing to do with the fact that Zidane was great for Real Madrid. Both Real and Juventus got what they wanted out of the deal. And I wouldn't have had it any other way. I just think it's wrong to say that we "outsmarted" them or anything like that. They knew what they were doing, did Real. But so did we 
Yeah, that's what I meant, whether Real bought the right players is a different matter entirely. But they bought the players they wanted to buy. Juve doesn't have Champion's League this upcoming season, but surely we're still a big club and if ever there's a time to spend some money, it's now. Secco & co. need to be able to throw their weight around when the situation is critical, that's all. Else we'll end up handling transfers like Manchester United.
And if we can't get Milito, I'd go for Pepe and Barzagli.
