what a load of crap, so your all complaing about the ammonth he donated, remind how much you've donated? Oh, and remind me of any other players currently doing more then Totti right now? And your saying he did this as a PM stunt? Like some have said, have non of you realised that this could be the charities idea? After all, do you really think they'd would want the money, or the world to know a famous, much loved footballer, is involved, probably raising alot more then 2400. Just because he is a footballer, and earns alot of money, doesnt automatically mean he owes them anything at all, or anyone else for that matter, why you people believe he should of done more, why??? And again, there are negatives to him giving them a huge sum, if people (who by the way are VERY fickle) believe that people are giving them say for example £250, 000 all the time, it could inadvertenly stop them doing it, because people are just as likely to think, there modest donation doesnt mean much if people are giving them such high donations.
Nicole is right in some parts. But im reeeallly sorry- Totti is a jerk no matter what happens. I know this sounds extreme, do not think im comparing them, but here is an example: stalin. He pulled alot of stunts to make him seem like a nice guy to the public, but he really murdered thousands. Totti does alot of gestures which are generous but not unselfish- he does it to help clean his disgusting image that he displays on the pitch and so that everyone would think he is a nice person.

In all fairness, Nicole, donating a shirt on ebay that raised £2000 or whatever it is doesn't exactly speak highly of his charitable intentions. I mean how much did he pay for that shirt in the first place? He got it for free. And he gets one for every match he plays, then he passed it onto someone else who sold it for him. What out of pocket expense was that to Totti then? Zero.
Anyway, I don't think athletes or celebrities should be ranked by how much money they've given to charity. If they get involved in charities, it's mostly because they believe in it and not because they want to get something out of it. Maybe that's naive, what do you think? In any case, as long as they do get involved, that's always a good thing and those who do it to repair their public imagine I think are in the small minority. A lot of South American and African have done a lot to improve circumstances for children and people in their home countries, I think that says they were raised with good values and they're doing the right thing.
