...a player who refused to play for his current club...
just check how atalanta lined up against parma 4 days ago
apparently you have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. again, according to some at least semi reliable journos koopmeiners was promised to be sold this summer. and atalanta was actively sabotaging that. now they acted like they are shocked out of the blue and they just learned that koopmeiners wanted to leave. koopmeiners was an examplary professional until the parma game - and again, we don't know what happened behind the scenes
of course atalanta would have preferred a deadline day deal. but while sjw's can argue that it's legal, at the same time it's purely unethical. most clubs stop playing players that are being transferred to avoid injuries. most clubs don't come up with cheeky statements like percassi did ("selling koopmeiners was never on the table", what an asshole) while already having a gentleman's agreement with the player, and most probably negotiating a deal with juventus.
it was just a petty power play attempt by atalanta. again, you might argue that it is legal. yeah it is. still petty, unethical and unfair. you can of course keep defending them, nobody will stop you. you are very wrong though, regardless of whether it's about juventus or not
btw the same happened to pavard at bayern: he was promised a transfer, bayern started to be dicks about it, player stopped training, then got sold eventually. it might be shocking for some but when you break a promise, there might be consequences
