When I was young, or should I say younger, I used to take all of the penalties that came my way. At school and club level, it didn't matter to me, but I think that's because I had no fear then. Now that I'm old, I mean older, I guess I feel the pressure more. From time to time something just takes over me and I go with the flow and take all the set-pieces, but of late I haven't been my confident self and rather than thinking when I score this we'll win, I think what if I miss?
Really and truly I should take the penalties because my teammates hardly blame me, but it's the crowd that gets to me. I know that I shouldn't really care about what they think because for the most part they can't do any better, but I do.
When I was still in primary school I scored the winning penalty in a shootout and scored the equaliser from the spot in a quarter final. I also scored two in one game for my club team when I was younger, but that isn't me anymore.
I dont mind taking free kicks because it's alot harder to score from them so I don't feel the pressure (in a club match just the other day I scored a free kick and hit the crossbar with another in the same game).
