The 4-4-2 and the 3-5-2 do have their differences. The latter utilizes a three man defence consisting of central defenders, whereas the former uses two full backs. True, it isn't too hard to switch between the two formations during a game, but imo Olivera (Camoranesi) doesn't suit the 3-5-2 system.
The wide players in a 3-5-2 should be good two-way players. When Capello used this system with Roma he had Mancini and Lima. Zambrotta can be used on the left in this tactic, but who on the right ? Zebina and Birindelli are too defensive while Olivera and Camoranesi are the opposite

I hope Capello will dare to use Appiah in that position, as 2 or 3 times Lippi did it in the begining of the last season. He is offensive enough and also he can go down to defend. He has the lungs to run up and down and , in case of a sustitution, he can switch position to the CM...
