Pessotto? I heared better jokes recently!

Seriously, we will surley stick with a 4 men defense. We used it the whole pre-season, so forget about Pessotto. I would stick with this one:

-------------------Buffon---------------------------
Zebina---Thuram---Cannavaro---Zambrotta
---------Blasi---Nedved---Emerson------------
Ibrahimovic---Trezeguet--------Del Piero----

Same here. The 4-4-2 is more balanced, more solid. Perhaps we can use the 4-3-3 against small teams who might be hard to break down.

:undecide: I don't know, IMO we should give some players rest against small teams, and since we have only 4 real forwards 4-3-3 is quite a bit risky...

Yes, Pessotto was bit of a joke, but I tried to use him as a signal that we got about 6 (Pessotto, Iuliano, Birindelli, Montero, Zalayeta -altough still young, Legrotaglie...) players written off, but one or two of them hopefuly will rebirth this season thanks to Capello.

If one of them is Legrotaglie, than it can take our defense no second best to Milan.

About the 352. Capello said in an interview after the arrival of Cannavaro, that now he can play either with two or three central defs. If I had not heard this, I would still think Capello will use the 352 sometimes, may not a strict one. As you surely know in Roma, after the injury of Candela, Capello used the mediocre Lima as a dumb leftback-left wingback, while on the right Mancini played in a quite attackind role. Its the same situation here. We got Zambrotta, who can do serious attacking, and still does his defensive job, while on the other side, about 3 of our players can perform as well or better than Lima did it in Roma.

----------------Thuram--Cannavaro---Legro-------------
----------------------------------------------------------Birindelli
Zambro-----------------------------------------------------------

---------------------Blasi------Emer-----------------------

--------------------------Nedv

I think Capello will try to use the full squad, or as many players as he can. The season is very long. (of course taking too much risk can make it much shorter).

Btw 442 and 352 are not so far from each other, with this players: just take Birindelli a bit back, Zambro steps up to rm, while Nedved goes lm. Of course different variations with different players or Zambro on the left are just as likely, if not more.

I also think that dp-zlatan and trez wont stay too much time on the field together (injuries, cards (Zlatan!), rest).

Buffon, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Emerson and Nedved would be guaranteed starters in my line-up. Zebina, Olivera, and Appiah would fight with Birindelli, Camoranesi and Blasi respectively, while the attacking tandem would be rotated between Delps , Treze and Zlatan depending on form. Hopefully the competition for places will help guys such as Camo and ADP find some consistency.

Haha, haven't read that ever before. Classic!

excellent post Togon, and Capello has a fetish of 352...
It's a slick formation when it's done right. It can be a real pain to break down, but at the same time, it can generate a lot of chances too. It's so much harder to pull off than 4-4-2 though that it's much rarer.

It seems few people in here has watch the games Capello has coached this pre-season... in the defense, no one consider players like Montero or Biri and their are definitly appreciated by capello...C`mon, we have one of the best defenders rooster in the whole serie A...canna, thuram, montero, ferrara, Iuliano, legro, Zambrotta, zebina, pessotto, biri, tudor...we have four good choices for defensive midfields with emerson, blasi, tachi and appiah and in the atacking mid we have nedved, camo, olivera and Kapo the two last one being able to play in the forward as well.
As always, it will be a matter or Physical form and momentum to see if we make it for scudetto and serie A, but to said that this team is not good enough IMO is a mistake....

i'd like to see a 3-4-3 formation but it's to offensive so i don't think so but wouldn't it be great to see this
-------Thuram----------cannavaro------------legro---------------------------------------------Emerson---------------Blasi-------------------------------------Olivera-------------------------------------------Nedved--------------------------------------------------Delpiero------------------------------------------------------Zlatan----------------------------Trezeguet----------------------
This looks awesome

The 4-4-2 and the 3-5-2 do have their differences. The latter utilizes a three man defence consisting of central defenders, whereas the former uses two full backs. True, it isn't too hard to switch between the two formations during a game, but imo Olivera (Camoranesi) doesn't suit the 3-5-2 system.

The wide players in a 3-5-2 should be good two-way players. When Capello used this system with Roma he had Mancini and Lima. Zambrotta can be used on the left in this tactic, but who on the right? Zebina and Birindelli are too defensive while Olivera and Camoranesi are the opposite.

I say we stick with 4-4-2.

Capello does indeed prefer four defenders and two central midfielders, but it'll be in a 4-4-2. The probable line-up for Sunday's game is as follows, and I believe it'll stay like this for the majority of the season:

Buffon
Zebina Thuram Cannavaro Zambrotta
Olivera Blasi Emerson Nedved
Ibrahimovic Del Piero

Slight changes involving personel may occur but the tactical system will remain the same I believe.
