This is something between 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 2-3-1-1-1-1-1 ?

Imagine the right side with Cuadrado and Costa and how they will defend together...

...maybe better than de Sciglio.

Rightback still sucks.

This could be another option:

-------------------Buffon-----------------

------Barzagli----Rugani----Chiellini----

Costa----Marchisio----Pjanic----Sandro

----------------Bernardeschi-------------

------------Dybala-----Higuain-----------

Would bring out the best in Dybala and Bernardeschi playing in a more central position behind the front 2. Costa would need to dig deep though.
Cant be in a 38 league game season. Only Benatia on the bench for 3 man defense? Barzagli looks old now. We should buy more defender then. Back 4 is here to stay.

Buffon
Cuadrado-Rugani-Chiellini-Alex Sandro
Marchisio-Pjanic
Berna-Dybala-D.Costa
Higuain
We might concede from time to time but we'll score a lot of goals andit'll be fun to watch. Barzagli at RB is terrible, terrible idea! About 70 minutes today I almost threw up!

De Sciglio Rugani Chiellini Alex Sandro
Bernardeschi Marchisio Pjanic Douglas
Dybala Higuain

it can easily switch to a 4-3-3 with Bernie playing as a Mezz'ala like Pogba did
Don't know formations as well as most here but these 11 (DeSig or Cauds) would be my first team starting the season off. Prefer DeSig to find out if really not a Juve quality player or can improve?

I think Max will play Bernie as a left sided midfielder eventually.
That could be but either way, Max should consider going back to 3-man midfield. The defense needs some cover from the midfield, otherwise it's an open road to our goal. Marchisio as DM with Pjanic + Khedira should be decent enough. Berna could be used as B2B too but it'll take time for him to adapt. The shit we showed in Rome is simply unacceptable, Mandzukic and Cuadrado were useless and Higuain with no support had a casper-like performance...

Or:

Matuidi/Berna-CM8-Pjanic

Basically the same :) Overall I think it'll be too hard to replicate the 4231 we had last season. Costa won't match Mandzukic's workrate and at this point Cuadrado shouldn't really be a starter. Dybala playing as AM doesn't make much sense either, he's too far away from the goal and playing in the middle always means he's against a tough CM/DM so he has it too difficult to make an impact.

I still think we need to go back to a 3 man midfield.

- - - Updated - - -

Our backline needs a bit more cover until they get their shit together.

- - - Updated - - -

Buffon

Spinazzola - Rugani - Chiellini - Sandro

Matuidi - Pjanic - Marchisio

Dybala - Costa

Higuain

- - - Updated - - -

The xmas tree easily converts in to a 4231 when we need width for example when Marchisio makes those nice runs forward through the middle.

Just remember what Allegri said about Draxler, he wanted to turn him into more of a cm. He will do the same with Berna who is a more physical player who has played with defensive responsibilities before.

Dope didn't think of it like that, was thinking he'd play that #10 role and Dybala would move higher. If he'll play in the midfield I know who we should get as vice-Berna and would fit like a glove

It makes no sense for us to invest heavily into our attacking options, and focus on wingers, if we are going to switch to a wingerless formation. We currently have 8 attackers, with the inclusion of Keita that would be 9, and even if we are going to loan Kean, we would be back to 8.

I would be all for a midfield of 3, if we were more stacked in the cm department but we aren't. If we bring Matiudi, we have only 6 cms, 2 of those cms being betancur and sturaro. We need to play to our strengths.

Also, as discussed multiple times, a formation is just a bunch of numbers, and because a player is positioned in a certain formation, it does not define their roles within that formation.

Say Allegri started fielding a 4-3-3

Our set starters would be Dybala, and Higuain in attack and one other player from Mandzukic, Pjaca, Cuadrado, Bernadeschi, Douglas Costa, Kean, and possibly Keita.

Same goes for any formation with a midfield of 3. And there is always the talk of Dybala being sacrificed, or him being played out of position. In any formation, unless its with an attack of 2 forwards, Dybala is being played out of position.

Allegri is the coach and he will figure out whats the optimal line up to his disposal, but by saying one formation is better than the other doesn't make sense. The group of players at Allegri's disposal, its very evident where the strengths and weaknesses lie.

Bobby P. :tuttosport:

We'll bring him back together with Martin, after having a strong season at Verona :donedeal:
