One thing we should not try is 2 man midfield with Pirlo one of them. He still has some qualities but certainly doesn't have spirit and legs to chase opponent. He couldn't even find a place in Milan's 3 man midfield. It would be much better if we keep Melo to cover space

Can we expect our midfield--more specifically Krasic, Elia and Pirlo--to provide intensity and work rate anywhere near United's? Nahhh.

Well not just yet but United would be winning every game 5-0 in serieA.
Pirlo- Not Conte's choice but i think we can expect to see a harder working Pirlo that gets subbed off alot. Then when Marchisio/Paz comes on, it will release Vidal more.
Krasic/Elia- Well if Fergie was coach, they'd step it up. This is where Conte will benefit by having 6-7 forwards/wingers to rotate. No-ones guaranteed time.

I'm not saying it will work from day 1 but this is what he's trying to emulate and good luck to him.

Although i support Conte's 4-2-4 in the future, it would be wise not to throw out the 4-4-2(half-wing) system that worked well for half a year. Basically a 4-3-3 anyway with either Elia or Krasic getting the freedom.

And if the LB starts getting raped, probably won't be long before we switch to the-
Chiello- Barzagli - Bonucci(Sor)- Licht defense.

central midfield will get raped so a flat 4 midfiled and back 4 will be used to help make it more solid.

wouldnt surprise me if matri was a one hit wonder for us last season, vucinic underperforms, quags has a lsow come back...IQ and Amauri can fuk themselves on the bench while toni watches......BUt, Del Piero will again have to lead the way upfront.

Based solely on the pre-season - especially the match against Notts - To me, the biggest problem is that we still cannot hold position and slow down play. We are playing WAY too direct and fast! I think if you sacrified the SS and invested in a AM that could play a free role - helping on both wings and the middle - someone with good passing skills, off the ball movement and creativity - We could return to the winning days (new LB and CB needed too off cause).
I reckon someone like Jovetic/Pastore/Giovinco/Hamsik/Gótze would do the trick!

They say Conte didn't want Pastore. I think it was a price issue though and next season we will look for a star AM/SS.
Gio-no chance.
Hamsik- overpriced, not a true No10 anyway.
Jovetic - possible- we always seem to raid Fiorentina.
Gotze - way out of our range.

We may be weak through the middle but we have players that can hold possession better. End of the day our players are more dangerous as long as we maintain possession.

I've been saying the 433 because we have the players to play it. But i get slammed because we bought "wingers"...I still think a 433 would be better for us regardless of how many wingers we bought. Krasic is a winger but can play up top, perhaps rotating our wingers on the outsides of the 433 or having one play in the middle and when pushing forward switching it to the 4231?
