442 could be an interesting option, atletico used it last year with this team:

Oblak
Junafran Godin Giminez Luis
Koke Niguez Gabi Carrasco
Torres Griezmann

Compare that to our potential 442 (for the present time)

Buffon
Alves Bonucci Chiellini Sandro
Cuadrado Pjanic Khedira Pjaca
Dybala Higuain

i think our formation blows the atletico team out of the water for every single position exept CB, and RB.
I don't think our formation blows Atletico's team out of the water because every single one of their midfield players is more solid defensively than ours. They've got defensively technical players with immense work rates. The formation/lineup you used for our midfield is quite lightweight defensively.

We could potentially play a 352 that can transform easily to a 4312 without the need to change players.

For instance:

3-5-2: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alves, Khedira, Pjanic, Lemina, Asamoah, Dybala, Higuain. Now, same players:

4-3-1-2: Buffon, Alves, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Khedira, Lemina, Asamoah, Pjanic, Dybala, Higuain.

Evra or Chiellini could play as either the left sided defender in the back 3 or as a left back.

Comparing players man for man with Atletico doesn't make any sense when their strength comes primarily from how they play as a unit.
:agree:

And in general it's such an un-nuanced way to approach football. You see it so often it's mindblowing - granted it's human to simplify a context as much as possible, but still.

Alves > Licht
Pjanic < Pogba
Higuain > Morata

2 > 1 = we are better than last season

No, we are weaker because Pogba was a guarantee, while Marchisio and Khedira are question marks. If they're fit we should be totally fine but people aren't happy with ifs and buts. Not when you make a statement like we did (that we're after the big ears).
So what did you expect the club to do? Buy two more WC midfielders? You don't do that if you have Khedira, Marchisio and Pjanic in your roster. Marchisio is expected to be back mid-October. Khedira is not 100% reliable, that's a fact but Juventus decided to take that risk when offering him a contract. Also, Marotta stated few times that the club has faith in Lemina and Asamoah who are perfect backup. We also have Sturaro and Hernanes who are not world beaters but not many clubs have such CMs as 6th and 7th choice to start. To sum up, I do not think our midfield is a liability. Of course, one may assume that Khedira and Marchisio will play max 30% of games this season but I find it improbable.

As for Pogba, he was not injury prone, that's a fact. He was a strong point of the team throughout the season yes. However, you cannot say he carried the team on his shoulders. I hope Higuain will have a much bigger impact on our results with his goals.

Cuadrado and Khedira are great defensively. especially cuadrado, pjaca pjanic are more offensive options. But our defence compensates for that and with Higuain Dybala playing together will make any opposition team shit their pants

This formation could catch opponents off guard in a smart approach, very unconventional: 3-2-3-1-1*

..............Buffon
..............Pjanić
........Alves......Sandro
..............Marchisio
............Khedira....
Cuadrado...Dybala......Pjaca
...............Higuaín

..........Mandžukić *

Central premise of the tactic is to confuse the opponent.

Roles:

Pjanić is to hold, find spaces and cleverly pass long balls.
Mandžukić * is there to defend only, roam around and use his work rate to track ball holders down.
The rest to do their conventional roles.

Very dynamic and will give us the advantage of defending unpredictably with non-defenders as well as attack starting from both deep and high positions.
The small number of defenders in it will fuck with Enrique's brain in CL final.

lemina has made the most amount of passes in last match against lazio

He has shown to be effective behind the strikers when Juve are bossing the match.
