Before people here kill me, I just wrote the last part of my post, after I saw Fred's post :D

Edit: and you're right Fred, cos a lot of countries still live with outdated ideas and principles.
Completely relative.

What you believe is outdated, could still work in certain contexts and not be outdated at all.

I can't believe that in this day and age, we still have people who believe one size fits all.

I've never ever said that, but come on, there're some basic things we all could agree on. It's just too easy to point out the hypocrisy, when we discuss, let's say, making fun of Islam.

it's condescending to say that your measure of limitation should be adopted everywhere else, just like we got a right to determine our limitations so should they.

no you said there is not one, yet you provided 2. The real point here is are you really trying to argue the extent of preponderance of socialist dogma in europe compared to US? dont you think that's a really silly comparison?
Socialist...there isn't one, not one. A Socialist party in name is not socialist if it doesn't practice socialism
didn't get it, forgive my ignorance. do you mean you're english so that doesn't count?
I'm saying that your tenuously supported historical example about Ottomans supposedly aiding Irish during the famine does not apply to one whose lineage is landlord, not tenant farmer.

Or that a lot of religious faith is somewhat at odds with a progressive, modern society.

You didn't say it, but you implicitly implied it.

There are some basic things, most people can agree on. That doesn't include it seems; what limitations on freedom of speech and expression should be.

Which is discussed in all countries. I'm just against the argument "it's cultural so it's okay".

At least Ottomans from the other corner of the world, took better care of tenant farmers than the landlords did. Unusual for an empire based on barbarism and genocide which is about to crumble.

You could kind of say the same for the success of the Roman Empire, though.

Of course not. I'm not saying cultural values should not be challenged. I'm just saying even if you challenge them, it would be foolish to expect them to be identical to yours.

Hmm 1852 : Charge high rents to subjogated, Farmers choose to plant only potatoes, famine because of administrative incompetence and poor farming policy.

1890-1930:Complicit in the Genocide of three different groups killing more than 4 million people

So what you are saying is the Ottoman Empire totally saved Irelands ass with those two magical ships it sent 4 decades before they went murder crazy

So they actually regressed in civility to what you and your kind are today then.

The sons of murderers often do not like their crimes to be remembered, it gets in the way of their self-pity.

Not all of it was based on barbarism and genocide, but after 600 years, things change. New ideas, getting rid of serfdom, no more despotism, more independent thinking, people becoming more literate etc...

They probably couldn't save them all but in Islam if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the whole humanity.

So if one kills one man, it is as if he has killed all humanity?

Because the Ottomans killed upwards of 3 million Christians in the early 20th century. Can you defend this, care to call it a great act?

The Ottomans are MURDERERS. Cold blooded, EVIL.
