BTW, a wild card might be alright, but give it to some youngster who has at least played some games. What about including Pennant for one?
Pennant's a criminal...

Out of interest... anyone know why i was neg repped for my first post in this thread where all i said was that i was relatively happy with the squad... Not exactly controversial...

He sure is, but he's an alright football player and someone who could make a good substitute.

Yeah, he's not a bad player, But then it seems that his sub role is taken by lennon... Out of the 2.. I would take lennon everytime...

This team can get far and I wont be suprised if they do. I think sven personally has gone a little desperate after seeing rooney out. Theo is a bad move, the guy should have at least been tried in a friendly beforehand which certainly would make sense. Nevertheless not too many suprises.

Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Stand-by: Scott Carson (Liverpool), Luke Young (Charlton), Nigel Reo-Coker (West Ham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andy Johnson (Crystal Palace).

Rooney is definitly not playin.. so Defoe will play in the WC...

Lennon will add alot... if he plays

Bent should go in place of Owen; Defoe is Rooney's back-up and Crouch is plan B.

Walcott is the surprise; when you see him, you'll understand that Sven made the right choice with the forwards.

Hargreaves and Jenas are wasted picks and personally I would leave Campbell out and allow King to get fit.

wheres Beattie?
Enjoying his Welsh passport? I dunno, I always mix up the British players...

EDIT: Oh no wait, he *is* English... In which case I guess he's just not been playing good enough

Walcott in all honour, having two injured players and a pole up top, you'd expect some more reliable option available. I'm excited to see that Theo will play, but not on the expense of players such as Ashton, Harewood or Bent who've all had great seasons. Considering Walcott can also play winger, I would've liked to see him take Hargreaves place instead since there are four other central midfielders in the squad already.
You make a good point with the Hargreaves thing. Sven called up so many midfielders, only four strikers, two who are unfit and one who has no experience on the international stage. Why not drop out a midfielder for an extra forward? Jenas and Hargreaves don't both need to be there when he already has Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick and Beckham who can play a central midfield role.

He has said that Cole will be considered for a withdrawn striker's role if Rooney's unfit - basically he's considering a 4-4-1-1, which makes bringing all those extra midfielders sensible enough.

the one player i really feel for is shaun wright-phillips,but it was his own bad decisions that cost him his world cup spot.

That depends on how he intends to play. For all we know he could be abandoning 4-4-2. Personally I would see nothing wrong with playing just 1 striker supported by Joe Cole, Stephen Gerrard or even David Beckham

Well he did try the 4-4-1-1 against Wales didn't he? And that didn't really go all that well. Still, I guess it could work.

4-4-1-1 at the World Cup? I recall that being the brilliant scheme of a certain Giovanni Trapattoni...

No way in hell that's a good squad. I'm sorry but how you people have the guts to call an England squad without Darren Bent a good squad is beyond me.
