I have my doubts about Romero staying with us. He seems pretty raw and would probably benefit from playing consistently somewhere else. I also don't like this habit of going form one extreme to another. First Rugani was considered as this brilliant youngster that should play over our more accomplished CBs and now he is considered as this completely useless jabroni. We'll see how things develop with Rugani in the future, but I think he still has a future here.
I was one that wanted him to start over Bonucci, because he solved our main weakness of defending crosses which Bonucci sucked at. But i also said after Benatia left we might have waited too long to make him a protagonist, as playing Serie A alone wasnt nearly enough, and that he wasnt nearly tested enough at the highest level to now rely on him as 3rd choice. It turned out to be the truth, from what was a bright prospecr 3 years ago became just another mediocre Serie A defender. Some of it was on us not giving him more opportunities on the highest stage, some of it was just him as we probably overrated his end potential. Hed now one of those "soft" CBs like Bonucci, but with half the playmaking ability and better in the air ability. Good for a team that defends deep and wont leave him in 1v1 situations vs SSs and wingers, bad for a team that will build from the back and get hit in transition. If he goes to a low table old fashioned defensive italian side, hed be fine. Here, especially if Guardiola comes, i dont ever see him having a big role
