With several names on the market, the Bianconeri will look to bring in at least one new Italian midfielder this summer.
In January, Juve were linked by multiple sources with a move for Lorenzo Pellegrini, the Roma midfield who was bought back from Sassuolo last summer for €10 million.
Since then, Pellegrini has become an integral part of Roma’s midfield, making 29 appearances so far this season.
It would be a tough move to convince Roma to sell yet another important player to Juve, especially after selling Miralem Pjanic and then losing out on Wojciech Szczesny after failing to find a deal with Arsenal. However, Pellegrini remains Juve’s favorite.
Then there’s Bryan Cristante, another Allegri prodigy who earned his debut with AC Milan while he was still in charge. Cristante has been reborn these past two seasons with Atalanta, although is loan deal expires this summer with Benfica. Atalanta may try to buy him out, but Juve could opt to negotiate directly with Benfica. It will be very expensive in any case.
Finally, there’s the young Nicolo’ Barella from Cagliari. The Sardi have recently extended his contract until 2022, thus raising his value significantly. Barella has become a mainstay with his hometown club but everybody in Italian football knows he has the potential to be something special. All of Italy’s giants see this.
According to Tuttosport, the three players all have a similar value of around €30 million with Pellegrini being the most expensive. But after Juventus missed out Pellegri, the 16-year-old striker, they won’t want to lose out on another gem in quick succession.

I do agree with you that we will have trouble maintaining our status as a top 2-4 club (results-wise) in Europe if we don't start making a bigger splash on the transfer market and being a little more reluctant to sell players without having replacements of a similar level ready to step in for them.
This summer is all about midfield and RB and trying to keep our current stars together. 1 world class CM, 1 young CM with big potential, and 1 world class RB, while keeping our best players, and we'd be firmly cemented as one of the CL favourites for next season.
