We don't have any deal in place for a quality CM. Either we can't reach agreement for a CM till 31 August or we will overpay for an average CM like Can.

Just my feeling. I find the way our board focus on other area is too weird, given our lacking in midfielder.

Mangala certainly improved in Spain following his move from Manchester.

Sadly, his time at City, was characterised by poor, sometimes shambolic, defending. It could well have been poor defensive coaching/tactics. Nonetheless, City fans were majorly relieved to see the back of him.

He's now back at Manchester, though I do not know what game time he will get, especially if Guardiola adds another CM who has strong defensive capabilities.

He has a big salary at PSG which he's supposedly not willing to give up and he has done nothing to justify it. I'd pass because if he failed at PSG why would he perform here? He played in Ligue 1 for years before Sevilla, knows the language and still failed. He even stopped performing for the national side.

At best a 7/10. Losing Dani Albes and Bonucci weakens the defense, and Can as a midfield reinforcement is barely even that. If we get a better RB, and a quality acquisition in midfield, then it becomes a solid 8.

Yeah, the depth is very frustrating regarding CM position and we only have 3 starting caliber CM.

If we get Garay/De Vrij + SMS+ Schick/Keita (whoever you prefer of these options) how would you rate our mercato? IMO its a 7.5 since we lost Bonucci - With Bonucci it would have been a 8.5 for me
(ratings over 9 are reserved for special mercatos like keeping all the important players+adding WC wingers and a WC CM)

I think it's actually a positive thing that he was successful at Reims and Bordeaux for several seasons, it means he actually CAN perform in the league, just not in the team. The lad started just 7 games last season, not a lot to judge him by.

If we need another CB then get Garay, he's cheap but good enough when we need rotation. The signing is more or less a stopgap until we bring in Caldara anyways.

We are well covered everywhere but in midfield. Too many average players in there.

If we don't bring an extremely dominant player to partner Pjanic, I just can't see us winning the CL.
