You seem confused on the difference between a fan (us) and a faux fan (you). There is a term I think it's called fair-weather fan that you seem to be striving for. Try the Real Madrid forums I hear they are, in your words, "making the right choices".

Requoted to refresh your memory.
I'm a casual fan and support the club financially. I am not a "real fan" sheep boy. I'm a professional.

Anyway... both of us would be happy if we lifted the CL. We both have different methods, but we have the same goal. No point of arguing anymore.

Before we see how players perform , the highest rating this can get at best is 7/10.

And that's being generous imo. For me a 6 due how we decimated the defense quality and not adding a RB thats even half as good.

Only real certifiable positive note for me is upgrading our wing options alot.

We covered the Bonucci loss by signing someone younger and probably as good defensively, no? Losing Alves is probably hurting us offensively more than defensively but I wouldnt say our defense was decimated.

When people say "not adding a RB thats even half as good" do they forget how shitty Alves was for like 90% of the season? He scored vs Porto, played two amazing games vs Monaco, was ok vs Barca but their two best chances came behind his back and absolute shit in the final even in the first half?

Licht, MDS and Howedes rotating there for most of the season is no worse than Alves 90% of the season, even better when you consider how he didn't care at all before KO stage in CL.

And even in those big games he had he was playing as a winger mostly and Costa is definitely an upgrade over him there.

People are overrating his contribution way too much.

So Kean leaving on loan...so that means we have 6 players for 4 positions up front (not counting pjaca) ...what's the thinking - are we changing to 4-3-3? strange considering we didnt pick up either shick or keita

His quality was key to litterally carrying us to CL final, and he played RB plenty of times. Every damn time every time we sell a decisive player you have posters like you pretending he didn't amount to much.

It's insane to say what we have can compare, Licht and MDS together can't even give you a fraction of his contribution.

Höwedes we will see what he will do, but he is essentially just a solid central defender barely moves up, it will be like having Barzagli there and will function like a 3rd CB.

No, he didn't literally carry us. I listed all his good/great games in CL. Both against Monaco he played as a winger - Costa and Cuadrado in form are definitely better there. Against Barca he relly didn't do much outside of slapping Neymar a lot and the ref allowed it only because of his reputation. Best chance of those matches for Barca came after he left Iniesta all alone and 1-1 vs Gigi. Vs Porto he scored for 2-0 in Portugal, but Licht played great in those games too.

And I said those guys can replace 90% of his season where he didn't give a fuck and was playing like shit, not his 10%. For the 10% Costa, Berna and Cuadrado are there.

Not to mention his cancerous attitude in the locker room, talking Dybala into leaving for Barca and all that other shit. Good riddance.

And I'm not pretending anything. You're the one pretending he played like prime Alves the entire season. Everything I listed Barca fans were complaining about the same stuff two years previously.

You're mostly right and, indeed, we mostly remember those monster performances of his against Monaco, when he played on the right wing. In serie A he was hardly a protagonist (started only 15 matches) and he had some shocking performances. For good 6-7 months he looked finished as a professional.

On the other hand, it still remains that he was our best rated player in CL and our most potent player in regards to goals+assists. Almost as if he cared only about that particular competition.
Now, it stands that at 34 he probably wouldn't have been so important this year, and, hopefully, those wingers we bought can replicate his numbers or contribution in CL. But what also stands is that we are weak on the right defensive side of the pitch. With Alves' departure we lost experience and, since he probably won't replicate his last year's performances in CL, maybe we didn't lose much more. But, however we put it or spin it, we can't say that we are as good as we were on the RB position, and we surely can't say that we're better. Hell, if we accept that Alves wasn't that important, it looks even worse for our board that they failed to replace him with something better.

All of a sudden we look a bit light.

I don't like the thought that when we need to rest Higuain we have to play one of Dybala or Mandzukic there as you know that they will be playing a lot of games also. Also makes Allegri less likely to rest Higuain which could affect his form, he looked like he needed a rest towards the end of last season.

:agree:

Suddenly Alves was poor for "90% of the season". I was a critic of Alves but after a bad start he was excellent for us and a key player.

Well it seems wrapping up Costa and Bernardeschi early was smart. Even in the space of a month, the market has experienced inflation. Now Thomas Lemar is approaching 90M? Oxlaide-Chamberlain for 35-40M?

I would say our attacking reinforcements were 8 out of 10. I think Bernardeschi finds his place somewhere on the team quite comfortably because he is younger and can play anywhere but I'm not sure about Costa.

Szczesny is a coup. Howedes is a coup. If Matuidi has 3 years left in those legs, he's a coup. But I still would have liked to see a more definitive plan with the CMs. We know straight away that Marchisio and Khedira are big question marks. I think we needed 1 more quality CM and ship Khedira if you have to.

And the RB situation was bottled, I have to say. Marotta must have known Alves could leave at any second. And it seemed like we were somehow unprepared, not even linked to good solutions. Banking on Atalanta send us Spaghettino was hopeful and it's hopeful to count on him as a true RB anyways. How did we end up with MDS if Allegri is not even playing him? We're all thinking he requested him but he's benched so who knows.

I don't care about Keita but losing Schick hurt. Usually I like to see our mercato include a promising player, a rising stock of sorts. I guess that is meant to be Bentancur now.

I have to give the mercato a 7. I think we were in a position to do better than we did. It's not a bad mercato by any means but it's below the standard Marotta has set I think.
