Honestly 2006 serie B debute (that assist to Trezegol) and onwards to like waning down to 2013-2014, it was magical following Giovincos career from youth to senior.


I watched every single Empoli game on loan almost, most Parma games, but especially his years in Azzurrini U21 NT, one of the more dominant U21 players I seen in long while. He made bums like Bobby Fresh water look good with effortless creativity.


Too bad it didn't pan out in the end, was very exciting talent to follow.

Club handled the Giovinco matter worst possible way. He was an exceptional talent. They were at least partly to blame.

I say partly, because his recent comments pointed out that he had the wanker mentality which prevented him fulfilling his potential.

I liked him as a youth player too and thought he would turn out great, but c’mon. He got found out here at a big club and wasn’t near good enough. Not even close. His level was MLS/mid-table club.

And don’t give me the crap excuses about him playing as a 9 with his back to the goal under Conte. He didn’t. He played beside a 9 as a SS, and that gave him space to operate. He wasn’t fast enough or strong enough to succeed at the very top level. Never developed the strength and musculature for it.

He was too frail both physically and mentally to succeed at elite level

It shows how poor JJ youth system is when someone like Giovinco was considered some god tier talent. You will find 100s of Giovinco's in Spain and South America who've amounted to nothing.

Giovinco is a great example of the blinders we can have as fans of a club and the youth prospects at that club.

Giovinco looked way better than Iling or Rovella imo. More destined for greatness.

It's just a great reminder that as we see these deals for young players come about maybe don't blow a gasket thinking we just sold the next star because maybe we just sold the next Giovinco.

He very well could've had a lot better career here had some things been a little different. He was never going to look good up front looking for long balls from the defense alongside Llorente for example, and surely that would kill almost any player's confidence and then it's just downhill from there. We just weren't set up in a way that he would've worked out here.
