I support his work for the past 5 years when looked at in its entirety. I love the direction towards younger players, the attention paid to international scouting and acquiring young talents from all across the peninsula, and up until the season, I could fully understand the need for staying within a financial budget. But a combination of things have happened over the summer which led me to believe that they would go above their normal spending habits.
#1) Obviously, the influx of revenue from the Champions League. I certainly didn't expect them to spend all of that money, as there is still money owed to Exor and to finish covering the costs of the stadium.
#2) Financial Fair Play. This team is so in line with what they are looking for, that in all likelihood they could have dragged a toe or two over the line, and not be in any sort of trouble. Especially considering that FFP have actaully relaxes some of their restrictions for this year. If other teams can take advantage of it, then so can Juve.
For the past 4 seasons, this club has had to drag Serie A out of the 19th century and start bringing some sort of relevance and respect to this league. Now, other teams are following suit, which is great, because more prestige = better players coming to the league = more attention and interest = more revenue for everyone. But they not only now have to stay ahead of the curve to the rest of the league, but they must maintain a level of success in the Champions League to keep their own coffers filled.

I think we did well last year, all things considered, because the rest of Serie A, with the exception of Roma, were still lagging behind Juve. I truly think it is a different story this year and going forward. While I love the fact that Serie A clubs are spending and doing whatever it takes to compete, that is a double edged sword as far as we are concerned. We have to stay two steps ahead of everyone else.

However, to me, there is still a disconnect between the midfield and attack. Last year that was compensated with Tevez running all over the place and playing very deep for us. With Tevez you had a known entity in regards to what he brings this club. We still don't know yet what Dybala can bring us. That is why I feel that we do in fact need that attacking AM to assist Dybala in that aspect.
And I'm not the type who wants an AM so that we can "Send a message to the rest of Serie A and Europe". No, I want one because I really think that we need one in order to win. Fuck image, I want to win.

But the fact remains that no other club in Italy lost as much on and off the pitch as Juve have this season. I understand your point, but true AM's are hard to come by, expensive and rarely used these days. What I think we need is a creative allround midfielder or a playmaker like Pirlo. Obviously Verratti comes to mind.. IMO that would be the dream. Unfortunately there's no dealing with PSG, because they'll insist on Pogba in exchange.
Rarely used for those who don't use a 4-3-1-2 as their formation of choice. But Allegri does, and therefore I think we really need one. And whilst I agree that they are expensive (2nd only to strikers), this shouldn't be a newsflash to management and more importantly, the board, as they dictate the parameters in whcih we can spend.
