06/17/2003. As the great David Beckham transfer saga concluded with his agreeing to join Real Madrid, the England captain was generous in his praise for Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United and the Red Devils' fans.

In opting to leave United for the Spanish capital, and decline the opportunity to join Real's bitter rivals Barcelona, Beckham said the lure of Champions League football with arguably the world's most glamorous club was just too great to resist.

He has agreed a £25 million move to the Bernabeu, describing it as "an amazing opportunity" – one he would have regretted not taking.

However, Beckham added that his now ex-team-mates at Old Trafford are part of his family, and praised United's supporters for backing him over the past decade.

"I would like to publicly thank Sir Alex Ferguson for making me the player I am today," he said in a statement.

"I will always hold precious memories of my time at Manchester United and Old Trafford, as well as the players, who I regard as part of my family, and the brilliant fans who have given me so much support over the years and continue to do so.

"I recognise that this is an amazing opportunity for me at this stage in my career and a unique and exciting experience for my family.

"I know that I will always regret it later in life if I had turned down the chance to play at another great club like Real Madrid, which also has world-class players.

"I would like to thank other clubs who were interested in signing me including Barcelona and I wish them every success in the future, but I really want to play in the Champions League."

Beckham ended his statement with a tribute to Roy Keane, the United captain.

" wish Manchester United the best of luck, and led by such an inspirational captain as Roy Keane, I am sure they will continue to go from strength to strength."

I think Figo is on his way out for milan or inter.

hehehe do u guys remember Zamorano a while back? He couldn't get Ronaldo's #9, so he got 72, and put a '+' in the middle. Maybe Becks should get #16, #25, #34 ?
Yes, I remember that... but it wasn't 7+2 it was 1+8 ;)

Maybe they'll sell Figo... who knows? I heard Inter have gone shopping for a winger... :undecide:
or maybe they'll just change the tactics/formation a bit... I don't know, the only thing I'm sure of is that they'll sell Guti. There's no room for him whatsoever.

 Thanks

...me too! I just can't imagine Becks in another shirt. It will be weird seeing him in that Real jersey... spooky-shit!

I still can't figure out why they bought him. Figo is way better, the midfield is almost perfect. Why not use some of that money on some defenders??? Hierro is crap and IMO Salgado aint to good either.

I didn't mean worrying as in

"oh shit thats scary they will be amazing"

i meant as in

"what morons, i can't believe they are seriously considering it"

and anyway they can have him he's immensely overrated IMO. As long as they don't touch Aimar...

I wouldn't be so sure, seeing as the way to win in football is to outscore your opponent ;)
Man... quit it already.
I'm getting really tired of this Real Madrid talk. They're not that fantastic.

In this season they've been strugling. In the Champions League they were almost knocked out, but got lucky in Moscow and squezed through. In La Liga there's been no stability at all. They'll probably win it in the end, but they haven't been that impressive.

They haven't been able to outscore every team, like everyone said they would. Trust me, if they don't do something about their defence... they're going down!

oh...okay :D

I think so to, and they'll never get Aimar! When he gets tired of Valencia he's joining Juve! :dreaming:

Their arrogance will cost them, I'm certain of it. I mean, so many rich, spoiled, selfish players in one team can't possibly survive, right?

I was just kidding about Madrid being dangerous btw ;)

ok... got carried away, there's just so many people in Denmark going "uh ah they're so good, no one can't beat 'em." And I'm like "ahemm... Juve 3-1 Real" and they're like "they had a bad day" and I'm like "Kiss my ass!" and they're like... well, you get the picture right?

Yeah I do - we have some people here like that as well. Thankfully, most people here are Barca fans (for obvious reasons) so that kills off any chance of Madrid becoming very popular here!
