Actually I would argue Messi's impact is more reliant on speed than Ronaldo. If Messi loses his speed then it will take away his ability to beat opponents completely. Whereas Ronaldo without speed can still be used as a target man due to his height, strength, leaping ability and finishing ability.

I guess Messi can still play as a false 9 like Totti but I think people believe Messi will eventually drift into CM or something and just turn into Xavi. I really doubt it.

You know I understand the frustration that real football fans are frustrated with your run of the mill Real Madrid(read CR7) or Barcelona(read Messi) bandwagoner. But IMO the knack of actual followers of the game to try and be "different" is just as frustrating as the bandwagoners who only know the two aforementioned players. Real and Barca along with Bayern possibly are the best teams in the world for the past few years, with quite a distance to the rest. Ronaldo and Messi are better than every single fucking player out there in the past 6-7 years. Admitting these things does not make you less of a football fan, it also doesn't make you a bandwagoner or a fanboy or whatever other terminology we use to describe those non serious football fans we all hate. It just means you're realistic, and you actually give credit where its due.

I really don't think so. For me, Ronaldo can score from situations that don't always require you to beat people with the ball or with pace. For example, he can score off a dead ball header. He can score with his back to goal, playing centrally, more like a target man. He can score from outside the box with a powerful shot.

I think this is where Ronaldo and Messi's careers will start to go opposite directions because I think Ronaldo's attributes are all set up for him to focus purely on goal scoring as he ages whereas Messi will focus more on playmaking. For example, Ronaldo might still gather some assists playing centrally but every time he creates danger for teammates nowadays it is coming off the wing with pace. That will go away for sure.

Once Messi loses the ability to outrun 3 or 4 defenders and get into the box, he is left with few weapons to score goals IMO. He cannot score as effectively without pace like Ronaldo can IMO. What he won't lose is his ability to think quickly and combine quickly but his teammates will have to be helping him a great deal if he can't run past people anymore.

Iniesta can get past players but he can't get all the way into those vital areas anymore and that's why his influence has declined so sharply. It's one thing to feint a single player in midfield and it's another thing to feint 3 or 4 and get into the box. That takes a burst of speed no matter who you are.

Anyways, that's just my opinion. I think Ronaldo can hold up as a box striker even when he's older. He will not lose height or strength. I'm not saying he's necessarily more talented or smarter than Messi or anything like that, just that physically he has an advantage.

That'a bit ridiculous. Ronaldo has fantastic off the ball movement inside the box. Pure instinct. When he cuts in from the outside, beats his markers with a pace, those are situations when the speed matters.

Inzaghi was one of the greatest poachers of his time and he wasn't particularly fast, but knew where and when to positions himself. Ronaldo's game quite obviously has more to it.
