i read that the reason for his injuries might be the new position martino plays him in. he used to get injured at the beginning of his career when he played as a winger but then guardiola moved him to the center where he didn't have to run as much and he thrived there although he didn't seem as impressive. now he's running a lot again and the injuries are popping up.

I would say that might be a good point but he was getting injured the whole second half of last season too.

And I hope that isn't it either, because Martino is finally getting Barca to be less Messi dependent (see how much players like Fabregas & Alexis have "improved" under him). It's no longer a disaster for the team for Messi to be out, if it was last season they wouldn't know what to do without him for this long.

yeah, that's the thing. you have fabregas, neymar, and sanchez all playing important roles now and they're dominating games without messi. i'm sure he'll bounce back though. he's a WC player, hard to see him not come back from this.

In La Liga I agree but not in the CL, they will struggle against big teams in CL without Messi, just see in the future.

against which teams? midtable La Liga teams yes but when the big guns in CL await, Barca will have big problems without Messi. It's true that Barca this year seems to be less Messi dependent, but as I said in big games they still need Messi more than other big clubs need their star players, Barca in CL QF or Semi without Messi is half of a team.

That's yet to be determined though. You can't base it on last season's CL matches with either no Messi or a Messi at 50%. Vilanova, while I respect him as a man, just did not know what to do without Messi there (think a lot of it was that he was too soft to go up against Messi's ego). Martino seems to be able to handle things.
