Puyol's getting old, he should retire :D

And that Varane kid... whata fuckin' boss. will be the best defender in the world soon enough. He's like Barzagli but more athletic and can score headers :p

As far as Barca goes, I hope these recent losses make them figure out what they're doing wrong. A small switch in tactics would make them so much better than they are and they really need that extra versatility because Messi is getting shut down every game and he's 90% of their attack. I'm saying this because I hope to see strong teams in Europe as long as it's not Inter or Milan :). People always bitch about quality of football having gone down and now they're asking for one of the best teams to falter :disagree: make up your minds.
Fuck Barca.

read the rest of my post bitch-tits.

Puyol should indeed retire, unless he's ready to take a back up role. He's not bad, but he sure isn't as agile as he used to be. He never was a great defender, but he was athletic enough and fast enough to recover and make plays. Now he's just a waste of space against solid competition. Barcelona need to buy a good defender rather than another attacking they don't need.
Definitely. He still has moments of genius here and there but they're not enough to play for a team like Barca. Reminds me of Canna.

I can't say who's better, but Bale is on fire this season. Is Di Maria?
Even if stats favor Bale this season so far, Di Maria's role in Real is different to that of Bale's at Tottenham. Di Maria is not the main focal point and contributes differently to his team.

Ohhhhh, man. Talk about schooled by DiMaria.

Therein lies one of their problems. They are making the universe revolve around Messi.

I genuinely said OHHHH when I saw it

As for Varane, yeah, he is one of the most talented young defenders you'll see around.

The quality of football deteriorated in Europe in 2006 when barca changed from chokers to cheaters.

It's not difficult to beat them with those tactics and with Messi out of form. As Celtic and Milan showed us, just play your center backs deep, stay disciplined and funnel Barca's play through the middle of the field. The fullbacks and wingers want to cut inside and end up getting in each other's way.

Fair enough. If they can't really be compared then because of their different roles, then how do we know who is better?

Admittedly, I don't watch a lot of either. But when I watch Real, I find Di Maria a very frustrating and wasteful player. When I watch Bale, you can say he is to Tottenham what Ronaldo is to Real (to a lesser extent of course).

I think Bale would be perfect for Man Utd., but I wonder if his style would work outside of the EPL.

But that just makes the quality of football go down. Football loses!
