You guys are underestimating African teams, Elgerino has a point here, its almost as hard to qualify from Africa as it is to qualify from Europe. Teams like Gabon, Guinea, Togo etc are not famous teams, they might be unorganized, but its near impossible to beat them at home. African teams are almost impossible to beat at their own turf, and even though the football quality wise is not the best, neither are the facilities and so, it's still tougher to beat an African team at home than to beat a European one.

Oh and i believe if African teams were played in Europe, at least 4 would qualify.

And even Donadoni could have done it.

Man, it was the penalty shoot-out against Spain. It was roulette. 50-50.
Had Buffon beat Casillas, the semis would have been Italy-Russia and Germany-Turkey.
Even the average Italy with a clown as their head coach could've done it.

The Italians are too hard to beat in major tournaments. In euro 2008 they lost on penalties, euro 2004 ended without a defeat but Denmark-Sweden 2:2 fucked them up. Euro 2000 was a last minute goal by Wiltord and a golden goal that eliminated them.
They won WC 2006, they were robbed in Korrea and again the penalties against the hosts France eliminated them in 1998.

They're one of the hardest teams to eliminate at WC's and EC's, no matter who's playing for them and no matter who's their coach.

As a betting man, i never bet against them.

Forget the big teams like Portugal, Spain, Holland, Italy etc. But the top African teams are at least as good as the likes of Sweden, Croatia, Serbia and the likes.

If they had the resources the European teams had, they'd have been much better than the above mentioned nations, because imo talent wise, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Cameroon are much better.

So at least one should reach the semis? It's gonna be played in Africa, their home.

I know it can be hard to play against some, very hard...but I don't really think it's fair to judge that way. There are some teams in Italy that are very hard to beat at home but it doesn't make them hard team overall and actually they are all average.

Yes, when i was talking about the teams that are difficult to beat at home(ie, Gabon and the likes) that was my point anyway. That despite them being average teams they are tough to beat at theit turf, which makes qualifying all the lot harder.

This WC, there will be an African team in the Semi's. Mark my words.

They are, sometimes better than them, sometimes worse, depending on the generation. But in general they are at least as good.

The difference in securing the qualifications is that these top African teams are strong favorites in their groups, while Sweden, Croatia and the likes always have France, Italy, England, Holland, Germany, Spain or Portugal in their groups, plus dark horses like Slovakia, Bosnia, Ukraine as 3rd pot teams in the group.

But the qualifications are very hard both in Africa and Europe, as Snoop said. One bad period, both in Africa and Europe, will almost surely mean an elimination, because only 1 team qualifies from a group in Africa and only 1 team qualifies directly from the groups in Europe.

It's how it went so far. Italy was never weak as it's now.

Croatia should be up maybe. Sweden can lose/win, same with Serbia...Serbia is average and waking up it seems with this coach, but if you are comparing African teams to them it makes them average as well, as I already said they are.

Not Algeria though. :D

You guys will be in pot 4, which means you're going to be drawn a tough group, meaning you will probably be ousted from the first round, sorry :p

But you can still qualify to the WC if you get second place in Europe(Playoffs), but in Africa its 1st place or you're out, which evens things out.
