Except for players selection, today's game was good, not excellent but good. We need those kind of wins for confidence. Do you remember Chievo last year and the goal we conceded in 95. minute. Today we had control over the game. Siena had just one shot on target and that shot wasn't dangerous one.

If the game was good then so was the players selection.

Yes I've said god but we don't know what would have happened with Elia, Krasic and Vidal as starters. Mybe it would have been excellent. They are more pacey then today's selected duo, and all those times when Pepe and Giacherini got the ball and failed to give the final product, with those two I think situation would be different. Pepe and Giacherini lack quality, and that's the fact. I appreciate their hard work, but can you imagine with those two as starters us as scudetto winners?

Top Barzagli, nessun flop.

Sarà difficile continuare a tenerlo in panchina.)

And maybe just maybe our left flank would've been exposed since Elia doesn't defend well and Grosso got fucked up with no support whatsoever.

I don't want Pepe and Giac to start most of the games, but Conte read it perfectly and we got our 3 points away from home with relative ease, Lippi style.

I'm glad we got a 1-0 result today, showed the ability to squeeze out results. Also satisfied by how they closed down siena, and even grosso looked good out there.

It's debatable. We haven't seen him play yet, so we can't say would he defend or not. He is aware that playing for Juve is different then playing for Hamburg, and I think Conte would subbed him off if he wouldn't defend. But please Pepe had 1 cross out of 7 succesfull, 0 driblings out of 4, 27 passes and 75% succesfull ones. Real winger sould have more then 10 cross atempts and at least 3-4 to meet targets, more involvement in attack because in that way you put more preasure off your defence as their wide players are forced to defend more. We mostly tried through the middle. As unbelievable as it seems Giacherini had the exact same stats as Pepe. We have Pepe 1 and Pepe 2 on the wings

Exactly. We haven't seen him play, Conte watches him every morning since he joined this team, maybe he's working on his defensive qualities more now. Conte opted for Pepe and Giac, we got the 3 points. I'm not saying that Pepe is preferred to Elia because he's better, during the course of the season, Pepe is a bench player no doubt. You gotta view it from all angles, Don't forget that Elia is new to Serie A and the atmosphere away from home is not healthy for making a debut.

1 shot on target all game for Siena. Now that's what I call more solid defending.
That's excellent news. I hope the back line keeps it up.

Are there any highlight vids yet that anyone knows of? Unfortunately I drank a bit too much last night and slept through the game.

Not as commanding a performance as it should have been, but a win and clean sheet nonetheless.

The memory from last season is still fresh in my mind, and it was this type of match that we consistently bottled all throughout the year. I was patiently awaiting for us to cave and concede 2 goals, or begin to scramble the ball and defend frantically after we took the lead, but saw nothing of that type. Buffon was barely tested and our defense was solid, 2 things which never happened last season in games like these.

From this perspective, giving it's only week 2, it's a noteworthy improvement even if the performance was clearly lacking. Hopefully Krasic and Elia start the next match, because Pepe, and to lesser extent Giaccherini, do not offer enough of a threat down the flanks. Once we become dangerous in those positions, we will really take off.
