Alex played his best football in the 4-4-2 and in the capello days he didn't have someone behind him even though he didn't have anyone next to him. Alex is trying too much and over complicating every move he is doing.
Best football? He was performing good in the matches but I wouldn't call that best football under Capello. I don't recall Alex every playing his best football under the 4-4-2.
One of his best ever years in 02-03 under Lippi was when Pavel was playing as a playmaker role behind the attacker and Del Piero infront of him with Zambrotta on the flank. And before Pavel we had Zidane and before Zidane we had others.
4-4-2 isn't suiting Alex, it's pretty obvious.
The moment he needs some creative players to play for him, is the moment that he loses a lot of what made him the player he is. In the past he is the one the created but not he is slowing down the plays, losing the ball too much and even his skills are letting him down. That only happens when a player knows he having a bad patch and its gets to him. Its not the system, however i know that he will turn things around sometime this season i just hope its soon cause we really need him
I'll disagree there, having creative player next to him doesn't mean to do Ale's job, having someone creative would helpy him and Trezeguet with lot of good passes, you can't expect Alex to put the ball infront of him and run 40meters alone, not even Maradona at this age was able to do that.
He needs someone he can have a contact with on the field, Alex is a very creative player and having someone else as creative as he is but younger would be amazing.
Anyway at least If Ranieri wants to continue with his 4-4-2, to change the system of our game, stop playing Palladino and Pavel on the flanks it's not helping at all.
