You say that when in the text it says "he had little to do". Palermo had no attacks.

Ill be honest, it looks harsh, but aren't these the ratings that players start off with at the beggining of the game, and then they get deducted and added points, according to their performance?

ya from my understanding they start off with 5 points. So giving all the defenders 4's and 4.5's means you deducted points from all of them. Which is not deserved......

my apologies then. I thought they started off with 4 points. they didn't do anything wrong in my opinion, just not enough to get "high" points. all my ratings should be +1 from what I wrote.

Happy Del Piero: I'm In Form

Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero was one of the main protagonists in his side's 5-0 win over Palermo, even though he came in as a substitute in the final 25 minutes of the game...

"Before the game I had said that I would score two goals," revealed the Bianconeri's captain to Sky at the end of the match. "I've never abandoned that trust in myself, and I'm also in an optimal physical condition.

"I'm also in the middle of a great time in my life thanks to the birth of my son," he continued.

"I expected to be at this point of the standings.

"We have potential as a team, but we shall be able to see how things are going only at the end of the first round. We must have the spirit of feeling able to win against anyone."

Del Piero is looking forward greatly to the match against the Rossoneri.

"We will need humility, and we'll hope to do well. Milan is a great team, but we are, too."

Pinturicchio then went to explain the quarrel with Palladino.

"I told him that I couldn't go to dinner after the game," joked Del Piero. "At times on the pitch, it happens to raise the tones, but we cleared things up straight away."

With regards to the national team, Del Piero is still hopeful of a call-up.

"I hope to convince Donadoni as he is taking me into consideration," noted the ex-international. "It's what he told me and the others. He will choose the best solution."

Ranieri salutes Del Piero approach
Sunday 25 November, 2007
Claudio Ranieri praised Alex Del Piero?s attitude and admits it is not easy to pick a starting XI at Juventus.

?Everyone in this squad deserves to play, but it is better for a Coach to have these dilemmas rather than struggling to fill the gaps,? said the tactician.

Del Piero was on the bench for the 5-0 demolition job on Palermo, but in his 20 minutes on the field scored two goals and set up another for Marco Marchionni.

?He has the right hunger and dived right into the game. I saw he had a bit of a row with Raffaele Palladino, but he is the captain and was right in making sure his status was respected.?

The Under-21 international had complained about a pass when Del Piero was caught on camera telling Palladino to ?shut up.?

This was a very important victory for the Bianconeri, who had drawn their last two games before this big result.

?I was very worried beforehand, as Palermo are a great squad and were unbeaten in six. We were afraid of them, but did not allow them to launch their usual counter-attacks,? continued Ranieri.

?I am very happy with the performance, all the players are in good shape. I saw a great spirit and we are proving that with each game. What we may lack in quality we make up for in character.?

Juventus are in second place alongside Roma and Udinese on 25 points, but the Giallorossi and leaders Inter have a game in hand.

?It is a very entertaining season and we want to keep it alive as long as possible.?

A beautiful game, juve dominated the whole 90 minutes. Personally, i expected more from palermo, after all, they are a good team. The man of the match....i'd say alex. Despite the fact he only played 20 minutes, he showed everybody he still got it. He scored two goals and assisted for the forth goal, scored by marchioni.

Pavel nedved - man, that man can really act, i mean, when he falls, hell......i'd lie if i said i could tell if it was a foul or not :) But hey, when we see what the judges are doing to us this season, that penalty was nothing compared to the decisions made by referees in our opponents behalf

I hope milan players watched this game. They could lear a thing or two from us :)

True that penalty doesn't affected the game. Since we are already leading 4-0.

4-0 or 5-0 will make no different to our posisiton in the table.

I wish we keep our feet on the ground because this was not the real Palermo. The real Palermo can actually trouble us. This Palermo came to Turin with a white flag already thinking about defeat. They were too scared of us and a team like we are fortunately knows how to punish that.

I think all the players were very good, so I will just single out whom I think were amazing.

1. Iaquinta - Until the 60th minute he was creating havoc in Palermo defense, owning the so much praised and overhyped Barzagli who is a worse defender than our Legrottaglie on top form. to the idea of signing Barzagli. We need a world class defender and Barzagli is not one of them. He also scored the goal and helped the team very much with his movement ans solid passes. The best signing this season and I wonder when will he (or will he ever) run out of steam and enter into bad form? I certainly hope not as he is worth every penny spent on him, maybe even more.

2. Nedved - Best display this season. He didn´t do anything wrong today and I could ocasionally even see the smile on his face. He was relaxed, in a good mood today and tireless. He had numerous good passes, he created many space, he caused many fouls from Plaermo players (including the penalty) and had 2 good chances for scoring the goal. Unfortunately he couldn´t manage to score but that doesn´t matter as already this way Palermo had to take the ball from the nest 5 times. Since I am a big fan of Neddy, it was a joy to watch this kind of Neddy for me.

3. Legrottaglie - This man is in a form of his life and is currently irreplacable. I pray to God he doesn´t get unfortunate again as he is enjoying his football and full confidence from Ranieri. This man bring stability to our back line and even has some organising skills. Who would of thought that before this season? This Legro partnered with Chiellini can actually stop Milan forwards next match. What a wall in defense. Keep it up, Legro.

4. Del Piero - Great 30 minutes from Capitano. It was enough to show his class. I recorded this match and I think I am going to watch a replay of his freekick at least 10 times. :D Also I liked his sublime assist for the 3rd goal. I already thought the chance will be ruined as Alex was hesitating whom to pass the ball but it ended in a best possible way (in Palermo´s net). Hi speed and pace isn´t the same anymore but it ´didn´t matter yesterday as his movement was great.

5. Marchionni - I am very happy for this man because as a player I really like him. He is fast, pacey, has an excellent cross and can pass and shoot. He showed some of his skills yesterday and I think this goal is very important for his morale. Congrats to him and I hope he won´t suffer a tough injury again.

Also, my opinion is that penalty was slightly harsh and debatable but it doesn´t matter since it happened at the last second of the match and it didn´t affect the final score. But hey, if the Domenica Sportiva said it is a penalty then it is, who gives a flying fuck??

Oh yeah, that would be Colantuono and Zamparini. Well, I saved a few words for them at the end. They can both soap it. We certainly showed them today who is a crybaby.

I can give u that.

Buffon- 7- very little to do, did it well.

Zebina- 7- productive; stayed on the field for ALL of 90 mins, not even a yellow card- enough said.

Legrottaglie- 7.5- Amauri who????

Crisicito- 7- much better than his past performances, he doesnt need to b loaned out, he just needs time. Playing next to an experienced CM like Legrottaglie could really help his game as well.

Molinaro- 7- made some great runs down the left today, not world-class but reliable and consistent.

Nocerino and C. Zanetti- 6.5- great improvement on Parma game, they'll need a world-class performance against Milan to stop Pirlo and co.

Camoranesi- 7- SUBLIME and not even at his best still

Nedved- 7.5- only this performance (+Livorno) r the two performances that r up to Nedved's standard, did well today... seemed serene and ambitious. He needs to be consistent cuz Marchionni can play on the left... so can Camoranesi.

Iaquinta- 7

Trezeguet- 7

Del Piero- 7.5

Marchionni- 6.5

Match

What can there be said? Did we outclass them, or were they awful? I believe we had the an average line up at a first glance. We showed up and started attacking, we had a period of boredom but we got our first goal, Legro headed it down and Trez did the business. And some say he is inconsistent, while he leads the scoring charts for Serie A...

Second goal came at just the right time. We needed something to put us into the break with comfort and to make Claudio's job in the dressing room easier. The second goal was well worked. Camo put in the cross, Vincenzo got to it and showed determination to get to the ball. Most other players would have gone down in hope for a penalty but I liked the way he got up and finished the move. The Criscito/Neddy incident was great, "Ill do the business boy!". Pavel is a tough nut :smoke:.

Half time came and went. Palermo started off the second half looking for a goal but they seemed to run out of steam with 30 minutes left. In that time it was funny to see Nocerino and Simplico square up looking for a fight, before the giant figure of Amauri came out sorted it out :D I wouldn't have messed either Rino!

One part of the match stood out to me, and it was to see a defender chasing the ball with Iaquinta behind. Vinny caught him up, used his strength to win the ball and passed it into the area (poorly). This is what we don't get when we start Del Piero. On tired legs I think our captain is more useful. I hope Iaquinta and Mauro didn't get major injuries and that they are fit for next week.

Third goal was immense. Del Piero smugly put a free kick in after being on for a few minutes. He is underrated as he is great at the free kick. Then the best part of my match happened, which was to see Marchionni come on the pitch. This dude has been hampered with injuries for so long and it was awesome to see him play a part in a great game for us. Palermo had a corner which we cleared nicely. The ball was played to Del Piero who had one man in his way, he played a weighted through ball to Marco for his first Serie A goal for us. That was my highlight of the match, by a long distance.

Fifth goal was not a penalty. I'm guaranteeing that. The Palermo defender did not touch Nedved greatly, and I think it was partly a trip by Pavel. Ill not lie and say I didn't want a penalty out of it, I'm just being honest. I wasn't fussed over who took it either. Marchionni would have been my choice but all we needed was it to hit the net, which Alessandro did with ease. Last kick of the game, and we hammered them. I liked the dancing Nedveds in the stand also, they were animated.

All in all our play was very wide today and we opened up their defense like a can of beans. Our best performance of the season, against tough opposition. That is encouraging for us fans to see

Player Ratings:

Buffon - 6
Superman had little to do today. One good save, the planet is safe.

Molinaro - 5
Lost possession too easily I thought. He didn't really look confident in his passes. He was dissapointing today for me, but he is all we have for the time being.

Criscito - 5.5
Average. As most of our defense, he had little to do. Never really got going and made a few bad errors. I hope he improves with age.

Legrottaglie - 5.5
He assisted Trez for his goal but I wasn't too sure on is performance. There was no bother to him but if there was I wouldn't have been convinced he got to the ball cleanly.

Zebina - 5
Who hushed him up? He was like a mouse, nothing like the Zebina I want to see who bombs forward making strong tackles and runs. I like the noisy Jonathan.

Nedved - 9 (Man of the match)
I remember criticising his performance 2 matches ago. I said he was slow, too old and should retire as soon as possible. He proved me wrong. Ill give him man of the match aswell. He put in a brilliant performance. He made good runs, rarely lost possession and was a great influence to our younger players. Bravo Pavel :pint:

Zanetti - 6.5
Quiet by his standards. I thought he played very deep and should have been given more freedom in the second half. At least he did his job properly.

Nocerino - 8
Played nicely, he was always eating and biting away at opponents legs and he never gave in. Was Zanetti in disguise. I give him credit for doing that today. I also think in a fight, he could have taken Simplico. ;)

Camoranesi - 7.5
He put the ball in for Vinny's goal and made convincing runs for us. It shows that we desperately need him in the squad as we are short on wingers. His running against the age of Milan will be fun to see!

Iaquinta - 8
Great determination for the goal he scored. I liked his play and his strength he gave us. He earned this call up and he didn't dissapoint me.

Trezeguet - 7.5
I saw him make crosses today. I saw him go wide on the flanks. I liked his goal. That is Treeguet, top scorer in Serie A and not called up for the French national team.

Del Piero - 8
Our captain scored a lovely free kick, he showed Raffaele who is boss on the pitch and he is better when coming off the bench. He assisted a goal, he grabbed 2 himself and he is even closer to breaking new records. What a guy.

Marchionni - 8
This dude deserved every bit of celebration he could have got after scoring. I feel really sorry for him about his injuries so hopefully karma has come to rescue him and make him a great player.

Palladino - N/A
Im not sure what happened between him and Del Piero but hopefully it finished when they went into the dressing room.

Ranieri - 9
People criticised him for the team sheet he gave out. After 90 minutes, we understand why he made that choice. The Tiago situation is more then just what we think in my opinion...

Forza Juventus!
no one in that Juve team deserved less than 6. All players played well, it was played in good spirit. Whenever the Palermo attack did its job, our defense did its job.

Who passed the ball to Del Piero before the Marchionni goal?
Molinaro

He was warming up for the longest time... cant say Ranieri made bad subs, but would have liked to see tiago have a go with no pressure on...
He was planning to put him on, but due to the cramps to Iaquinta and Camoranesi, he had to make forced changes, while then he wanted to give Trezeguet a standing ovation and not change the formation.

You say that when in the text it says "he had little to do". Palermo had no attacks.

Ill be honest, it looks harsh, but aren't these the ratings that players start off with at the beggining of the game, and then they get deducted and added points, according to their performance?
If defenders get a clean sheet and control 95% of what comes their way then they should get at least a 6.

I wish we keep our feet on the ground because this was not the real Palermo. The real Palermo can actually trouble us. This Palermo came to Turin with a white flag already thinking about defeat. They were too scared of us and a team like we are fortunately knows how to punish that.

Even tho we won you gave a bit higher.Defence didn`t do much since Palermo didn`t have any good attacks. There was no need to give everyone 7+.

Man!! I watched the game in a pub with peeps who thought Juve was crap. It was good seeing them shut up.

Its no coincidence that the 2 games Nedved has played his best we have scored 4 and 5 goals respectively. We will need that against Milanista!!

Iaquinta is just one big hustler. He should always start. DP was sublime - I thought he'd carried the ball too far for Marchionni's goal only for him to put in one killer of a pass. The free-kick was majestic. The pub guys were sayin DP and Nedved were too old but they left clapping their hands!

the defence did well but I'm sure it was more to do with the fact that we were attacking them frequently. I know Molinaro gets a lot of stick here but I think he's decent and yesterday, his runs were dangerous

Buffon 6.5 - Did what he had to do against a non-existent Palermo attack .

Legro 7 - He broke down Palermo's attacks with ease and lead the defense with such confidence and professionalism . Couldn't have done a better job .

Criscito 6 - Had a few mistakes but still a solid defender .

Molinaro 7 - I think he had his best game this season . He was good on defense and surprisingly good in attack , particularly in the first half . Hopefully , he will continue to improve .

Zebina 6 - He didn't do much , but did nothing stupid , so that's an improvement .

C. Zanetti 7 - Broke down Palermo's attacks and had very good control on the ball .

Nocerino 6.5 - A warrior in midfield and never hesitates to come back and help out in defense . He really really needs to work on his passing though .

Nedved 6.5 - Finally , he's beggining to come back to life .

Camo - 6 - he had an ok game but didn't really produce anything spectacular .

Iaquinta 7 - He worked hard all game and creating many problems for Palermo . He's not afraid to use his strength to his advantage , He's also a very quick player . He uses whatever tools he has to his advantage and that's why this player has been so versatile this year .

Tezeguet 7 - I always have critisized this man for his skills , or lack of skills , but he has really proven that when it comes to scoring goals he is the master . He scored a beautiful goal today and even became more involved in Juve's attacking play , which is what I like to see from him .

Del piero 8 - What can I say ? everything he touched turned into gold . He was perfect in translating every single opportunity he had into a goal . The freekick is just simply one of the best set pieces I have ever seen in my life . It was simply perfect , the way it spun around the wall so calmly and gracefully just shows us why he has become the living legend of Juventus . As for the Palla incident , I don't think it's a big deal at all . Del piero is just trying to keep Palla's feet on the ground and nothing more .

Marchionni 6.5 - Nice fake and nice goal .

Ranieri 7 - I really would have liked to see Tiago starting or at least playing for that matter but Nocerino and Zanetti are doing more than ok in midfield .
