Almiron- Zanetti is the best midfield partnership right now. It's the first game of the season, so i'd go with the most reliable quality. Zanetti knows the team, is very experienced and has proven in pre-season to bring balance to our somewhat unstable team. Almiron has Serie A experience and with his high-level performances in pre-season has fought for a starting place, which DOES matter. Tiago on the other hand, has only shown poor performances, has fitness issues and no Serie A experience; he should not start this game. Nocerino, though having impressed so far, is inexperienced and should be Zanetti's deputy for the time being.

And no way would I drop Nedved or Camo to accomodate an extra central midfielder. Which ties in to Mark's "Camo> Tiago". Of course Mark knows they are different, but you could drop one for the other. Then it comes down to who's the better player(for the team), which Camo is.

i just wanted to add to the discussion about the midfield partnership, i will be hugely disappointed in Ranieri if either Tiago or Nocerino start the game ahead of zanetti. For now at least zanetti is a must for the formation and dropping either camo or neddy to accommodate this formation of Tiago and Almiron on the pitch in the same time is a huge huge risk that we simply don't need and can't afford to take.

Remember ppl we need to hit the ground running, as we have most of our players fit now and now major injuries so we need to make the most out of it

OMg I have to step in here!! first of all thank GOD that none of u will ever coach Juve!! 2nd of all as soon as Tiago is fit to play 90 min. he will never see the bench,he is more of a complete player than Almiron,zanetti or Nocerino will ever be!! just wait & see,if ranieri or any coach coached juve later had tiago in the team & was fit,this guy will never be a substitute!!I dont think we payed all this money on a player just to put him on the bench if so than Tiago is leavin in January,any team in europe will dream of havin him!!

Synopsis: This will be Livorno's 4th straight season in Serie A after returning in 2004. High profile arrivals include Francesco Tavano (Valencia) and Vikash Dhorasoo. However, Dhorasso, who was released after a dispute with PSG, apparently has not endeared himself to Livorno management, so the move may be short lived.

Hometown hero Cristiano Lucarelli has left to play for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine after scoring close to a hundred goals in his four seasons with Livorno. The extremely talented but undisciplined Diego Tristan has been acquired to try and replace Lucarelli but the Spaniard's career seems to be in a death spiral. After scoring 95 goals in a little over 200 games for Mallorca and Deportivo la Coruña, he went the first half of last season without a goal and battling injury. Mallorca opted to prematurely terminate his second spell with the club and released him at the start of this year.

Last season Livorno finished 11th but spent most of the second half of the season slipping closer and closer to the three relegation spots. As it was, 7 points from their last three games was enough to ensure some adequate breathing space.

The last two seasons at Livorno have been marked by a managerial merry-go-round — Roberto Donadoni resigned late in the 2006 season to be replaced by veteran coach Carlo Mazzone. Mazzone then left in May 2006 and Daniele Arrigoni was ushered in. Arrigoni was fired only a few weeks into the 06/07 season only for the decision to be rescinded after a player revolt. However, it proved only to be a delay of the inevitable as he was fired for a second time in March. Fernando Orsi the former assistant to Roberto Mancini at Lazio and Inter was appointed and did enough to be handed the reins for the new season.
