tactics as zlatan said is not simply substitutions, its more. its everyday at the training ground, its micromanagement as he said.

capello is tactically one of the best managers because he has won almost every cup! that isnt just down to 'firm discipline' or whatever, but even man management can be considered tactics.

Capello is one of the very best when it comes to preparation at training and that sort of stuff, but I'm talking about his in-game tactics. I'm talking about his ability to get his teams to play differently when faced with different opposition. To make difference making changes. If Cap was one of the best managers in terms of tactics we would not have lost to Liverpool in the CL, we would not have dropped points against smaller teams when leading in Serie A, and we would not have lost 3-1 to Milan earlier on this season.

Balzaretti was my man of the match, he was everywhere today.

Del Piero won us the match with his goal so he would be a contender for MOM but he mixed good dribbles and nice crooses with lost balls and weak freekicks so i would give him a 6.5. I would give Balza a 7.

I feel bad for Zlatan, what a wasted chance, his confidence must be very low right now.

That IMO is sayin a bit too much, no group of players, no matter how balanced, can win without a good coach to mold them all together.

Perhaps the milan team u talked about could've been succesful without having a worldclass coach, like you say. But surely not just any coach!

Though I get what your point is, and its not saying that Capello isn't world class, its just that his strenghts are not in his tactical abilities,

IMO I'd say in-game tactical abilities coz he does prepare the team well tactically, but doesn't seem to be effective enough in countering his opponents' tactics when things aren't working for his team.

I'm gonna rep you for a very good post. You just explained what I was trying to in a more effective term. It's not that Milan could have won with any coach, just that they didn't need a tactically brilliant one to help them along. Capello is an excellent coach, but that as you say is not down to his in-game tactics, but other qualities.

The match was ok. We domianted the field. We have created lots of chances to score but unfortunately we weren't sharp. Ale scored a wonderful goal and for me he was MOM.
I felt that Nedved should've been replaced half way through the 2nd half with Mutu. Trezeguet did some nice touches and got very close to scoring, unlucky. Good performance by Balzaretti. Zlatan wasted chance was just disappointing. But hey, better miss when we are winning rather than when we need the goal, huh .. Never the less, the play was nice by both Ale and Adrian. Next time Ibra will score ..

Forza Ale for every single goal of the 186 goals scored...
Good mentality by Capello, putting Ibra in for the last 3 min in the match was good for the general mentality of all players and fans.

You're right about being a tactical genius and still losing, but when you are a tactical genius and your team loses it's because they didn't perform well or you were unlucky. Do you remember last year's game against Parma? We led 1-0 but instead of trying to kill off a considerably weaker team with a poor defence we sat back and ended up drawing 1-1. Is that not stupid? Yes it is, and the players didn't sit back because they wanted to, it's because that's what Capello wanted. The Parma match is just one of many examples of that and on some occasions we won but only because of our superior players.

Remeber the Liverpool game? We needed to score. Cap said let's just be patient so that's what the players did and we played like if a goal was bound to come eventually. We started to panic and tried to play long balls into Zlatan? Isn't that a stupid move when Hyypia, Carragher and Biscan are so good in the air? Yes it is. Why didn't Cap use his head and change our tactical approach? Because he isn't that good. He said afterwards that Pool deserved to go through. Hell yeah they did because your team played without purpose, without a game plan.

You want me to comment on Inter? Fine. Why don't they win? Because they don't have a unified group. They don't play like a true team, more like a group of players just sent out on to the pitch. Who would be able to change this? A coach like Capello. Wait, did I just contradict myself? No I didn't. Cap can do that and he does, that's why he's a good manager, he just isn't that great tactically and you don't need to be when your players are as good as his are.

I get your point and it so happens that its not far off from what I think of Capello. When was the last time Cap made In-Game changes that altered the course of the game for us? when we were trailing?

I still rate him highly (one of the best in the world), but I believe our main concern (why we are criticising about his In-game tactical abilities) is because its one of the more important aspects for winning the Champions League! Cap needs to step up a notch in his in-game tactics if he wants to succeed in the CL.
