Serie A Preview: Juventus-Bologna
4/30/2005 4:46:00 PM
Carlo Mazzone, the man who denied Juventus the Scudetto with Perugia in 1999-2000, is in a position to do the same again with Bologna when the two sides meet this Sunday.
BACKGROUND
This is the last chance to gain an advantage before the Scudetto showdown knowing that Milan have to travel to Florence for possibly one of their toughest games, against a desperate Fiorentina side who need to avoid relegation. The Milan players appeared tired in their CL semi final against PSV, which gives hope to Juve fans praying for Milan to slip up. Juventus has to win at all costs to put the pressure on the Rossoneri. Bologna is another team that almost lost their hope to qualify to Europe but already avoided relegation so they will be playing without any pressure unlike Juventus who are expected to win; a paradox that could help or harm the old lady.
TEAM NEWS
Juventus will be missing Ibrahimovic and Mutu (suspension), and Zebina and Olivera due to injury.
Bologna will be without Loviso, Meghni, Ferrante, Nervo, Colucci all due to injury.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Nedved (Juventus)
Whenever Nedved is really needed he is there. First in the Bologna game a late freekick secured the three points for Juventus and in the Lazio game he went solo to score the winner in the closing minutes. This time with the absense of Ibrahimovic and Del Piero coming back from an injury he will be needed most and as usual he will be there!
Bellucci (Bologna)
The Rossoblu striker has been nothing but trouble to the opposition defence not only with his physical skills, but also with his mental skills. He has the character that could lead a team like Bologna to a surprise against a team like Juventus; one to watch out for.
POSSIBLE STARTING XI’s
Juventus (4-4-2)
Buffon, Pessotto, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Appiah, Blasi, Nedved, Del Piero, Zalayeta
Bologna (4-1-4-1)

PREDICTION
Knowing that Juventus gathered 6 wins from the last 8 matches while Bologna did not win a game in their last 6 games and also knowing that Juventus are desperate to win this one to keep up with Milan, home team Juventus has to come favourites for the 3 points.
