You believe Moggi and Lippi when they say that he's out of form? Why well do you think he's out of form! He doesn't get to play so obviously he wouldn't be able to perform as usual.

Chievo have already done more than enough in the past seasons to prove that their emergence in Serie A is no fluke, they actually defeated big teams like Roma last season (in their own backyard) and also impressed against others. However, we seem to have a perfect record against them and Lippi have always prevailed over Del Neri in all 4 Serie A matches between the two teams.

Our players seem to be in good shape as Del Piero impressed with the Azzurri (against Wales) along with Zambrotta and Camoranesi, while Trezeguet snatched some goals while on-duty for France and Nedved did well with the Czech Rep. Despite that, there is a good chance some of those big names would be rested on Sunday night to be in perfect condition when facing Galatasaray in our first Champions League match of the season (Wednesday).

Lippi hinted that players like Davids, Tudor, and Iuliano will see some action soon. Davids did rock the boat with his bust-up with Van Nistelrooy in the build-up towards the Czech Rep. Euro2004 match as well as his running contract difficulties, and some rumours even indicate that he will be fielded with the Primavera team indefinately as punishment. But Davids might take part in this match as Lippi would want to use all of his available resources. Birindelli and Di Vaio might start too to give Zambrotta and Trezeguet rest.

It would be interesting to see Legrottaglie back in the Bentigodi Stadium but as an opponent this time. Appiah saved some energy for this match as he rested during the week and would be fresh for this encounter, hopefully.

Del piero is the one who deserves to be rested more than anyone else after The last 2 Azzurri matches.
Don't worry, he won't go for the full 90, I'm sure of that.

Aressandro10 - Though it is true that Buffon has worked really hard recently, you've got to realise that outfield players need rest more than goalkeepers do because of all the running they have to do.

    There's Soccerage's Preview up :D

    http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/q1203.html

    BACKGROUND:

Juventus pay a visit to the Bentigodi stadium on Sunday night for a fixture they usually do well in.

Chievo are a big question mark this season following the departure of some players who formed the backbone of these last two seasons' successful Serie A campaigns. This home match against Juventus might not necessarily indicate Chievo's definite future for this season, however it will prove an important test to know if they can still be up there with the big name teams.

Juventus come from an impressive 5-1 home victory over Empoli in the first match day of the season and much is expected from Lippi's team this year. Playing away to Chievo is never an easy feat for any team, however results in these past two seasons have always smiled for the Old Lady when they played the Flying Donkeys.

The bianconeri prefer playing teams that play open football like Chievo, rather than teams who defend in block to secure at least one point. The openings Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved may find will be important for the outcome of the match.

    LATEST TEAM NEWS:

Chievo: Del Neri should be able to field the team that drew away to Brescia in the first match day of the season, with Perrotta and Baronio dictating the midfield and Sculli and Cossato trying to force their way through the black and white shirts.

Juventus: Miccoli will not be part of the match following his appendix operation, while Tudor and Pessotto are still not 100% fit. Lippi's biggest worry might be the condition of his international players, some of which played two games in four days and might not be at their best for Sunday's showdown.

    PROBABLE LINE-UPS:

Chievo (4-4-2): Marcheggiani; Lanna, Barzagli, Sala, Moro; Franceschini, Perrotta, Baronio, Santana; Sculli, Cossato

Juventus (4-3-1-2): Buffon; Zambrotta, Montero, Legrottaglie, Thuram; Tacchinardi, Appiah, Camoranesi; Nedved; Del Piero, Trezeguet

    PLAYERS TO WATCH:

Giuseppe Sculli (Chievo): The young Chievo striker who is actually on loan from Juventus will definitely try to prove to Moggi and company that he will be worth bringing back next year.

Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus): After two really good seasons with Chievo, he finally made the jump to a big team. This will be the first meeting against his former club and emotions might be high for the Italian international.

Trezeguet will replace him. DP will probably play for about an hour and then Di Vaio will take up his position and Trez will go upfront.

This looks good. The defence looks solid & the mid well balanced although I would surely replace Tachi with Maresca. This match will largely depend upon Neddy & DP's form.
Di Vaio should get a game soon though coz am sure he is itching to show his worth.
