Regarding the 4-3-3. On paper it is by far the best formation with our current squad of players, for some reason it didn't work out. I think it was well worth a shot, trying to see what we could do with that formation.
Wasn't a good representation of the formation in the first half with Vidal so advanced, arguably a 4-2-3-1. And I don't think two wingers should play either, Matri can't be dominant enough in the penalty area on his own, and Elia/Krasic weren't direct enough.

I'm not sure what the thought process was to put Vidal as an attacking midfielder, clearly looked out of position. I didn't like how we started, Matri should have had another forward next to him (in place of one of the wingers) if the team was going 4-3-3 to start with. Sort of like below. Or just keep the 4-2-4 formation from the first three games.

Marchisio-Pirlo-Vidal
Winger/FW-Matri-Winger/FW

Few things I didn't like. In the dying minutes Grosso runs half the pitch and tries the shot, when there were two players in the box. Vidal's clumsiness only outdone by Chiellini, both really had a few awfully lazy pieces of play. Krasic almost gifted them a goal as well late on. Good players were probably Marchisio and Barzagli for the most part.

Juventus were quite lucky that Catania were wasteful, they had the best opportunities and could have had 3 goals in that game.

i think we could've been more effective in the 1st half if vidal was in the 2's and pirlo in his place. in the 2nd half it didn't mattered because it started to rain and it was a mess down there.
Marchisio should be further forward and Vidal next to pirlo today.

no, i blame wanking fans who push conte into playing players that don't get what the fuckin system is for the draw.

you saw how bad the first half was ... there was nothing working, players not running properly where they should, passes not getting played the way they should it is only down to playing players that don't yet get what the system is and what they should do in the different situations of the game. thats why matri was left isolated and why when one player had a ball there where not enough other players moving into space ... because the players simple did not move well because they did not know how to. give me giaccherini and pepe any day of the week over elia & co who either dont understand the tactics because they can not yet speak italian so well or are just to stupid...

now you see all the "stupid useless running" from pepe and giaccherini when it is not present... it brings the game to halt and makes us to static. for every useless run pepe makes, there is an opponent who has to cover him thus spreading the play and changing the opponents formation to make it easier for the midfielders to find space to operate in.

Vidal was sloppy it the WORST parts of the field...in our defensive 3rd. There was a time he actually made two misplaced passes back to back in the same play. This is something that Marchisio gets bashed on time and again but I am glad you pointed it out, someone had to. Hopefully next game the team in general get's their possession game back on and gets this shit out of their system.

Catania showed all teams how to limit our danger. Just take out Pirlo of the game by marking him and playing him Physical.
Bologna tried that too but Pirlo had a great game against them. Point is, if you have Pirlo as a threat and have 2 threatening wingers and 2 strikers, there is nothing much the opposition can do but defend in numbers and hit on the break.

Problem is for that to work in the long run, we need better defenders. The real worry in this game was that actually our worse defender was Chiellini of all people today. Barzagli has been the defender so far this season to be honest. Go figure.

Vidal is not an attacking midfielder. His passing is good, but that does not justify playing him out of position.

His passing was hit or miss for someone that has good passing. He gave away possession far too often in a part of the field that put us under pressure.

Fans that think that Juventus fans on Juventuz can actually influence Conte

Yes, his passing wasn't outstanding today by any means, but if his passing is not generally good, then Conte would not have played him there.

As we saw in the second half, his position should be near Pirlo in front of the defense, stopping whatever comes in front of him.

what is that ?

i am sorry, but thats what football is all about (no, not football manager... real football).
its not the team with the "best" players that wins, but the team that fields the players that fit the system best... thats why small teams can beat big teams that rely on their stars too much and don't emphasize the teamspirit

People seem to forget that Vidal had a bullet shot through his head... his movement and tackles were good. Everyone was decent except for our defense and Elia, Buffon had a good game and bailed the back four more than once.

4 points lost that would likely bite us in the ass late in the season, though I can say the same about Milan and Inter.

Watch Catania lose to Novara next week.

Fucking hell, I hate these fucking provincial teams. We used to thrash these teams without raising a sweat, now they are fucking our seasons over.

And to make matters worse, we play Chievo on the 16th and get to go up against our good mate Pellissier again :sergio:
