Why do people think any player we don’t buy is a missed opportunity?
I think it’s because people here actually wanted the top young Italian mids of the current crop. Getting Locatelli helps a lot, but it sure would have been nice to have picked up one of Barella or Tonali too. Helps also that Italians are most likely to stay here for the long run.

We have some promising youngsters though with Rovella, Fagioli, Ranocchia… so hopefully one or two of those three turns into Starting XI quality and this next cycle has a strong Italian core to it.

I don't think they will lure the best players straight away. It's gonna be a process the same way it was with City and PSG.

Also, I wouldn't cry if Saudis bought Inter. It would be for a better league and EPL shows it is possible to compete with state owned clubs.

imo it's going to be Barella and de Ligt.
i don't see barella leaving inda anytime soon

...EPL shows it is possible to compete with state owned clubs.
since 2008, when the takeover happened, city failed to make the podium only 3 times: in their first 2 years under the new owners, and in '15/16, when leicester won the league and city finished 4th. that's 10 podium finishes and 11 cl places in 13 years, zero years without cl football in the last 11 years. before that, they only had 8 podium finishes in their whole history. more or less the same goes for psg, they basically have the league title guaranteed (7 league titles, 3 2nd positions since the takeover). and serie a is more similar to the french league in that regard. a club with a revenue of 7-800m per season would easily dominate the league. an arab takeover would cement inda's position in the top3.

i'm all in for a better league, but a better inda? nah, thx

Obviously a top spender will become a top competitor sooner rather than later. The question is, whether we want to have strong competitors and accept the fact that winning will be extremely difficult or be satisfied with being a big fish in a small pond.

Having strong internal competitors would benefit Juve in my opinion. Stronger league brings more spotlight and more spotlight brings more money. Juventus has top pedigree and huge fan base to take advantage of such situation.

Take a look at what Liverpool has become. They don't have the resources of City, Chelsea or United but can't be considered inferior in any competition neither to the aforementioned teams nor Bayern, Juve, Barca, PSG or Real in the Champions League.

The other leading English clubs have the advantage of being part of the Premier League and all the revenues that come with it, on top of their already large fan bases. If Saudi took over a Serie A club today they would have a huge financial advantage on everyone else in the league because the general revenues are nothing like what the Premier League generates. Liverpool wouldn't be as strong as they are now if they played in Serie A, they are part of the product but a beneficiary at the same time. Unfortunately we're limited to our league. The only way to surpass that is limitless money.

The revenues EPL generates haven't been that superior to other leagues in the past though.
Didn't EPL become so attractive because foreign investors invested heavily in Chelsea and City adding two top teams to Liverpool, United and Arsenal? Five teams generating so much interest brought demand to the whole league which made them rich.
I believe it could be similar with Serie A if we saw a major investment in teams like Milan, Inter, Roma or Lazio.

You could say the same for any league, but the major investment is a pipe dream, especially for that number of teams. PL is where the money is and money attracts money, as well as prestige. The PL is attracting the big front end money dick wavers and Serie A gets the wannabes. Maybe a huge investment at one club could attract more, but it's no guarantee of success. Monaco followed on from PSG but they have not challenged at all.

PL was on its way before Abramovich arrived because they created a successful model based on the American one, and there are natural advantages in being an English language league. Also having a domestic powerhouse like BT creating a duopoly with Sky Sports for the rights in the past 10 years have pushed the money through the roof, and now you have the big international mega corporations like Amazon getting involved, there is no stopping it for the next decade at least. They got ahead of everyone else with their international reach.
