Look, sometimes you have to take risks on young players. That's why Wenger is so successful at Arsenal. While we are over here wasting time discussing whether or not a starlet can adapt to a league and language, Arsene is over there snapping up players such as Eduardo, Toure, Rosicky and Luka Modric. Same story while we argue and talk nonsense over whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo is worth his price tag while Alex Ferguson purchases him and proceeds to make a world class player out of him.
I'm sick of this shit. Players such as Barzagli, Zaccardo and many others in Serie A are not half as talented as Ivanovic or Vidic and players such as Luka Modric. This conservative transfer approach is why we are still looking for heir-apparents to Pavel Nedved and perhaps even Zidane and Del Piero. This conservative transfer approach is why we will continue lagging behind the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manure, Liverpool, and Milan while playing in Europe.
We don't even need to break the bank for some of these talents from South America or Eastern Europe, yet we seemingly never have any resources looking out for starlets in exotic places within this world.
When several top scouts and managers state that Ivanovic has more talent than Vidic, they aren't lying. I would much rather trust people such as Guus Hiddink than those who have not even seen players like Ivanovic play. Sure, players such as Barzagli and Zaccardo are Italian and experianced in Serie A, but these players are not world class and will never be world class. So if we want to continue being a mediocre top side, sure, lets go ahead and purchase those two Palermo players who are good stoppers at best. But if we want to put ourselves back on top of this football world, lets start taking chances on the youth and throw away this imbecilic conservative transfer policy that gets us nowhere.
Normally, I'd agree with you. However, Juventus are not in a normal situation. They just had their core ripped apart and are going to struggle to be even top four in Serie A, let alone any Champions League aspirations. They do not have the strong backbones teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manure, Liverpool, and Milan have anymore. They are not in a position to experiment much more than they are right now. They are arguably fielding more youth than I can remember with Nocerino, Chiellini, Molinaro, Criscito and Palladino as contributing squad members. Giovinco and Marchisio are likely to grab spots next season as well. Note that three of those young guys are defenders, two of which are regulars right now.
What happens if Ivanovic comes in, and has a hard time establishing himself, Legrottaglie regresses back to being marginal and Andrade isn't back till late March (all very possible scenarios). The backend looks very grim, that's what happens and there's a good chance that porous backline gets horribly exposed by the likes of Milan, Inter, Roma, Fiorentina, not to mention teams like Palermo,Torino, Lazio, Udinese and Napoli... and as a result the team doesn't make top 4, and loses an ass-ton of money from missing CL.
The summer transfer market has ended up being pathetic. Tiago isn't finding a place, Almiron is underachieving, Andrade is in sickbay, Molinaro isn't good enough... Iaquinta is the best of the bunch, but he seems to be sick/hurt every two weeks. Why was the summer transfer period such a joke? Cause they took too many chances instead of doling out for one or two can't miss players.
Bring Ivanovic, but make sure you sign a can't miss defender too, because Juventus can't afford to wait six months for him to get used to the team and the level of competition.
Once they have the depth of those top European clubs you mentioned, then I fully expect Juventus to take aggressive chances on the next phenom. I just don't think they have the luxury of being able to do that right now.
