I actually like the fact that he pays tribute to his idol. At the club since he was 9, what do people expect? Who would you idolize? He's out there having fun, ffs. And of course, as the saying so often goes, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I believe that's true in this case.
As for this nonsense about his character, I think the fact that he's a 5'4" attacker who has managed to become a professional footballer, combined with the fact that after some tough times he got right down to work to prove himself - pulling Parma up the ladder, and being selected by the Azzurri - demonstrates that this little man actually possesses a fair bit of character, and a pretty good work ethic.
