If you get regular playing time, then you are in contention for the NT, Giovinco isnt, so he isnt in contention. But quality wise, defenitely good enough, considering he is better then likes of Pepe, Quag, Montolivo etc (wonder if any of them have 8 assists, with a 3rd of regular playing time).

And the NTs starlet, Rossi, was allways 2nd to Gio in the Azzurrini, so him having enough quality for it or not isnt an issue. Neither is it for Balotelli, who is good enough to be called up too.

Well now that Giovinco's coaching "terrorist" (for andy) is no longer at the club and his youth teacher is now the coach I see Gio going much much further this year. I have a feeling with Ciro that Gio is going to light up Serie A next year along with Diego.

thank goodness Ranieri is gone. His name, Like Goal.com, should be banned.

And PS: The kid deserves a national team call-up, at least for a friendly to see how well he reacts with the big boys. He proved it against Chelsea that he can make a difference with the best, I think its a load of bull that just because Ranieri didn't favor him that he shouldn't be able to be called up. It is quite obvious that Gio can offer more than quite a bit of the players called up these last two friendlies. Santon played well in the league, not so much in CL and Gio did great every time he got on the field. I think handling the pressure of CL so well merits him a call-up, perhaps even more so than Santon IMO. Though, I would enjoy watching both of them play together for Azzurri.

I also rate him very high. I i think a call for a friendly to test some youngsters would be ok, but more than that will surely prejudice lippi i think. If he is called for a big tourney and flops , all the responsability would be going to lippi for calling a player witha big question mark.

He is still very young, i think we must eb patient. Ciro will for sure find a way to play him, as i think that Ciro is in the same position as everyone of us, who want to see how good he really is, and if he can be the next best thing everyone says.

This season is do or die for Gio, in Juventus at least... and he will get the chances hopefully.

With all due respect to Giovinco, Lippi isn't going to call up many players with just 10 starts on the season.

Giovinco will have an excellent chance to prove himself and make the team for last WCQs next season and if he impresses he will join the team in South Africa for 2010.

Just bought a Swedish magazine about the u-21 championships that is held here. The swedish journalists love Giovinco and one of them actually thinks that when Giovinco has a good day he is one of the best players in the world.

For all the swedes out there, buy Aftonbladet's "Allt inför U-21-EM". 10 kr, totally worth it.

Giovinco draws strength from Italy's spirit

Italy forward Sebastian Giovinco believes his side's main strength at the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship will be the fact "there is not one single leader but many potential leaders" within the Azzurrini team.

'Fantastic group'
The Juventus player may be only 1.64m tall, but he is one of the most influential in Pierluigi Casiraghi's squad and trusts that a number of his team-mates share his leadership qualities. "This group is fantastic – we are all very united, both the players who have been here for a long time and those who joined the group later," he said. "There is not one single leader but many potential leaders with talent and experience. This can be a huge advantage in the long run."

'Ambition'
The immediate challenge comes from Serbia, who defeated Italy in their opening game at the 2007 championship, and will provide formidable opposition when they meet again in Group A in Helsingborg on Tuesday. "It's very important to start well in tournaments like this," Giovinco said. "In our last friendly [a 4-0 win against Denmark last Tuesday] we could see there was still room for improvement in terms of our understanding up front, so we have worked hard on that and I think we've improved. Serbia's attackers are very dangerous but we can't hide our ambition to go all the way in this tournament."

Deeper role
Giovinco is expected to begin on the left side of a three-pronged forward line also including Mario Balotelli and Robert Acquafresca. Against Denmark, however, he often dropped into a deeper, more central position just behind the other two strikers. "That is my favourite role, the one where I can best use my skills," said the No10, who returned to Juventus this season having spent the previous campaign on loan at Empoli FC. "We tried that system against Denmark and could repeat it during the tournament."

Balotelli praise
Italy are without Giuseppe Rossi who has been called up to the senior squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup, yet Giovinco is optimistic that with Balotelli in the lineup the Azzurrini "can cope well with Rossi's absence". Balotelli made an instant impact with the U21s after being awarded Italian citizenship last August, scoring against Greece in the qualifying group before adding two more in their play-off against Israel. "He has fit well into the team," Giovinco said. "Everybody knows he is a particular character, but I'm sure even that will improve with time."

Free-kick specialists
The FC Internazionale Milano attacker scored a superb free-kick against Denmark, and Giovinco, usually the side's main dead-ball specialist, is happy to share responsibility should Balotelli continue to produce such spectacular results. "We will not argue over taking free-kicks," Giovinco said. "We will decide every time we get one. It's good to have more than one free-kick specialist. It makes things more difficult and unpredictable for goalkeepers. Set-pieces are very important in modern football."

Do you think Giovinco could play in the starting 11 if everyone stay healthy?
and in which position exactly?
I was just wondering he could play behind the forwards, SS and LM
1) Diego is behind the forwards so Giovinco is not going to get his spot.
2) LM- Does our new diamond formation consist a LM position?
3) SS- Giovinco is a great player but from what Iv`e seen this season this role might not suit him but maybe it was just the Ranieri effect

so what do you think?

He can't get a starting spot at first and then it all depends on his performances (as a backup and in the training). I'd like to see something like this: 4-3-1-2 Giovinco as Diego's backup or when DP can't play we switch to a 4-3-2-1 with Giovinco and Diego behind a sole striker. Ferrara also mentioned that it's possible that we can switch to a 4-2-3-1, in that case, he can play on the left side with Diego in the center.

Giovinco clings to Juve
Sunday 14 June, 2009
Sebastian Giovinco is wanted by Udinese in exchange for Gaetano D’Agostino, but the youngster has no intention of leaving Juventus.

“I have reaffirmed my desire to remain at Juventus and to give it my best in a club it is impossible to quit,” said agent Claudio Pasqualin.

“This is one of the most prestigious clubs in the world.”

Giovinco is a product of the Bianconeri youth academy, but struggled to make an impact last season under Claudio Ranieri.

He publicly blamed the Coach for holding back his career, stating “evidently Ranieri didn’t like me. It’s difficult to make your mark when you never play.”

Udinese have formally requested Giovinco as part of the deal bringing Italian international midfielder D’Agostino to Turin.

Juve have refused and so that transfer has stalled, which is very pleasing for Giovinco.

“He never thought about leaving Juventus,” assured agent Pasqualin. “We are very pleased to see the top stars arriving, like Diego, and Sebastian has the healthy arrogance to fight it out with all of them.”

Giovinco will be taking part in the European Under-21 Championships with Italy next week.
