Great points Graham, and I concur that this current fund raising plan will not work. The price tag is too steep and people will argue over the role they play on the forum. We can't have 25 or so moderators.

As for Nick, I really hope you consider purchasing the site and let someone else take the role of manager, sort of like an Abramovich type deal. You'll be here to oversee whats going on, but you'll have a fully functional staff below you to keep the place running. I think even Martin mentioned it himself that he would help out in some manner, perhaps giving tech support for a couple weeks or months.

The problem is the money and operational skills, and it will be difficult to find a person who has both.

Nick, would you be opposed to paying for the site's operation if you could hand the keys over to someone else to keep the machine oiled?

(that's not me volunteering btw)
why not?? I think you are the best to manage this site after Martin

Ok to start with...what is the amount we're looking for to keep the forums alive.

And i must say, im in agreement with Gray, the solution mentioned at the top of this thread is really nothing more than a quick fix.

I think there has to be something more concrete, a financial structure so to speak.

We could, for starters, charge a fee to members who want to join the site from hereon in, it could be a nominal one time fee, and i dont see fans really minding that nominal sum to be part of the system. The package could include an email id (i dont know if ids are already available, but if not, we could give it a shot. We'll even give them access to a member's lounge where they could access private videos or rare pictures - such as those compiled by Gray or any other members willing to volunteer. If that doesnt seem to work out, I'd be willing to give up my PM account if need be, so it could be part of the exclusive members package. It could also include a custom made avatar, while existing members will only get a choice from maybe a select range of avatars as decided by the powers that be.)

Obviously, im sure this may not be entirely fool proof an idea as i havent thought the intricacies through, but i just happened to read this thread, and wanted to give my thoughts.

As for the existing members, maybe we could pay - a one time fee to have access/retain our own PM account. Maybe we should pay to have access to the Live match thread. Or perhaps be made to pay for starting our own thread unlike the rules in the past. Sure, some of you may not be in tune with the idea of having to shell out cash for doing what you've been doing for free, but really, thats only to equate a package for new members who'd be paying to sign up here.

PS: As an absolute last resort, and im not kidding here, we could send a chain letter to Luciano Moggi or the management of Juventus to choke up the sum we need and integrate this forum as is, as part of Juventus.com with each of us giving a reason why, we still want this site around, or giving them an idea of how much this would encourage fan participation in the club we all love.

The money issue can be solved by opening a paypal account for the site where the fees for hosting and all the other bill can be paid from that account.

This also solves the problem of donations and/or subscriptions by sending money to that paypal account.

paypal isnt right. i.e. i couldnt donate to paypal account because i dont have a credit card from one of 35 registered countries. paypal is like burke.

ouch. Im trying to think as straight as possible, my head is throbbing.

I spoke to Martin. Martin said he will do a bidding for the site. So what I propose is that we open a paypal account and donate that money to Martin. I also propose that we look at this in a positive light and put our thinking caps on, FFS dont let a 15 year old do all the thinking. At least im trying.

Nick's idea is good, not necessarily him buying it. Anyone willing to pay to buy the site is good and even if he/she or a group buy it and are not informed on the technical site, they can hire someone to do that.

I think it is difficut to find someone willing to pay AND is aware of how to run the site.

Pay for every thread you open??? come on, thats too much asking. No one would pay that much, specially people who open new threads on a daily basis. Even if the donating idea worked by some members and kept the site alive for a while, surely, the site will lose more than 50 percent of its members and thus, it wouldnt be as it used to. Some of the current members might pay, since they know how it is and like etc. But after this donating idea, i doubt any new members would be joining the forum. So basically the site will be run by few people and much lower number of member. i.e. BORING, and sooner or later the people in charge will find out that this isn't working and close it once and for all.

Moggi paying for this?? You got to be kidding. The guy looks all over the world looking for free players, and you expect to him to pay for this site that he doesnt even know it exists.

Maybe we should tink of turning this site into a business. Can someone come out with a proposal? The core of the site that is the forum remains free, but we have site levels that will attract fees.

Dunno how practical it is, and I haven't thought it through thoroughly, but maybe...

No you dont pay for every thread you open. Current members can be given a statutory limit of the number of threads they can open in a month. And if they end up opening more than that number, to avail of the facility maybe they should pay up.

Why wont Moggi or whoever pay for this? Dont they want to amass a fan following like the other clubs in the world. There's only one way they can do that, is with fan interaction. And moreover your making it sound like this site will cost as much as Adriano.

sad to say it, but the easiest solution to financial problems on a website is advertising.

We get a lot of traffic on this site, so if we can work out a deal to have a banner that people can click a few times a day to keep the site alive, I'd gladly disable my popup blocker whenever I visit this site.

Well if you can make people believe that its the ultimate site for a Juve fan, why wont people pay to join it. Also if you think about it, there are two ways to look at it, either people will be put off by the fact that theyve got to pay to get through, but on the other hand, putting a price on the membership actually elevates the premium of the site automatically, and could make people believe in the product.

Either way, a risk at this stage is not going to be a bad thing, because whichever way you look at it, its all or nothing.
