You said Cannavaro didn't deserve to win the Ballon d'Or.
Yes i did, but i didn't say Zidane had a better season, nor did i say Zidane deserved the Ballon D'Or. I'd be contradicting myself if i did, no?

Zidane only had a good World Cup, he was ordinary for Real Madrid, and i would go as far as saying he choked when it mattered in the CL that season. In no way did Zidane deserve the Ballon D'Or.

Cannavro didnt deserve it either. He was laughing stock for 6 months in 2006

If having a wonderful season with your club, winning the league title, having an excellent World Cup and winning it can't bring it you the Ballon d'Or I wonder what can.

Being consistent, being great until the start of July and then becoming a laughing stock after that does not cut it. When your the best in the world, you have to be consistent. Ronaldinho was the best in 2006.

I disagree. Cannavaro the traitor was.

It's not really for the calendar year though, rather for the previous season just ended, which makes sense as you can gauge a player better over a season from start to finish and what they achieve at the end rather than going from the end of one season to the start of another that is just gaining momentum. People basically knew in July who was going to win the trophy, and in non-tournament years they know in May.

He was a laughing stock in the World Cup, the year' most important and prestigious set of games.

I know, that year was the toughest year to choose the best player in the world. But hey, i'd pick someone who was laughing stock for one month but consistent for the whole year and won the double, CL and Liga, over someone who was an absolute joke for 6 months.

I liked what Houllier said when he was asked what his opinion was on Cannavaro winning the award, he said "Is Cannavaro the best in the world? You have to ask Carew" in reference to the (in)famous Lyon - Real Madrid game, where even Carew made a mockery out of Cannavaro.

Drop the 6 month argument Fred. The most you can get are 4 months. From late August till late December. :D

He wasn't yet at Real Madrid when he won the Ballon d'Or.

Ok then 4 months. After seeing him for Real, there is no way i can give him the award, it would be a mockery, and it would take away the credibility of the award too.

Yes he was mate. He won the Ballon D'or at December 2006, he signed for Real in the summer of 2006.
He won the Ballon d'Or as a Juventus player. Based on his performances with Juventus and Italy. The couple of matches he played with Real Madrid means nothing.

That was a moronic comment by Houllier, who judges on one game apart from bitter half dead French people? Don't answer :D
It wasn't just the one game, that was his general level of performances in his first half season for Real.

Don't forget the Recreativo - Real game, where Ikewechu Uche made Cannnavaro look like a monkey.
