Seeing as you seem to be fucking with everyone else I'd thought I'd try to be devils advocate once :p
Seriously, I like France, I don't like the Azzurri. If you give me a stick and tell me the only condition to seat on the same table with Zidane, even for one minute, is to beat Cannavaro with it, I will beat the motherfucker till he drops dead. But that was sick how he played in Germany and imo he was the best one there.

Each to their own, I prefered watching Zidane dismantle the best team in the competition.

    @E

Klose was awesome in the competition.

Did you forget the disastrous half season he had with Real, that was 2006 too you know.
In World Cup/Euro years, the winners' best players have the best chance of winning the Ballon d'Or. Like Ronaldo in 2002 who only played in the World Cup but won the best player of the year. Cannavaro won it deservedly. Denying it just shows your bias.

Who on Paper was the best team in that competition? I think it was Brazil. Now I think alot of Italy fans need to rewatch that game carefully and watch Zidanes performance.
On paper Juventus were one of the best sides in Europe under Capello.
On paper Real Madrid have one of the best sides in Europe currently.

It was games like those that make me wonder how people could compare Messi to Zidane.
With the greatest respect to Arsenal, I think it defines the lunacy of the majority of fans when they found it fitting to mention him in the same breath as Zidane after that performance, let alone say he is clearly better than Zidane ever was.

I don't think Ronaldo should have won the award in 2002 either actually. I do not think it makes sense when a player is shit for 6 months and nobody cares, but he plays 6 good matches in the summer and all of a sudden he's the best in the world. In my book if you are to be considered the best, you have to be consistent throughout the year.

Calling me biased is just a way to run away from the discussion. I have no particular interest in Cannavaro, i neither hate nor like him, you on the other hand, support the Azurri, and there is a much bigger chance that you are biased in this than i am.

Of course. We aren't very renowned for our defensive prowess, and that wasn't even our first choice defense.

You supported France in 2006 World Cup too and that's why you have a hard time admitting that Cannavaro won the Ballon d'Or deservedly. Cannavaro had a brilliant season with Juve and he was excellent at every game in the World Cup. His team won the whole thing in the end while Zidane arguably kept France from winning it.

Cannavaro had a better season than Zizou did even if you conclude the bit in Real.

France defence, Thuram, Gallas and Vieira-Makelele duo carried France for most of that WC. Zizou is my all time 2nd favourite player after Ale, but he did NOT have a consistent World cup, he had so-so group stage, decent game against spain, out of this world brilliant one against Brazil, and good WC final performance. Before that Brazil game, no one was talking about him as the best french player even, that game alone settled his "status" in that WC too much.

Consistency wise, I consider both Cannavaro and Pirlo to have had better world cup, with Buffon close too. Despite Zizou being better to watch. In fact its ridicolous how overlooked Pirlo was in that WC. If your memories are shorten by the awe of the Zizou against Brazil, recheck match reports, everywhere Pirlo gets man of the match top marks in games, while Zizou was said to be inconsistent or not delivering enough up to that Brazil game.

Wait wait, i didn't say Cannavaro didnt have a better season than Zidane. Where did you get that from? Zidane wasn't even that good for Real in his last season. I said Zidane had a better World Cup, which he did. The best player in the world that year was Ronaldinho imo, he was amazing that year for Barcelona, but had a poor World Cup. Still he was much more consistent than both Zidane and Cannavaro.

Zidane was brilliant against Spain mate, do you not remember that game? He outclassed that Spanish midfield and made Xavi, Fabregas and Senna look very ordinary

He wasn't bad against Switzerland either, he created a lot of chances in that game, but the likes of Henry who was terrible in that game squandered all of Zidanes balls.
