Tbh I like it just I liked the other singles. I think this guy finally realized he has a shot of going from a fairly known artist and respected, in the right circles, producer to a somewhat mainstream artist (One of his new songs was in the Spotify's weekly top 40) and one of the most respected producers of today.

It happens when you're 25+ years in pretty much obscurity even though you're putting out work like no one else around. Dude's tired. He's done it all.

20+ min progressive/psychedelic pieces, dozens of concept albums with complex music. Has done everything the metal genre, in it's progressive form, has to offer... Enough was enough. He now opened his arms to Spotify and the idea of streaming music... Hell, he even has a profile there where he makes weekly playlist which btw are usually very good ones.

So honestly? I'm really glad he took this Tear For Fears/ 80's Genesis path this time. Whatever he was doing before to me had saturated a while ago. This is refreshing and taking his music to unknown places, at least regarding his career...

now that the whole album is out, what's your take on this path he took recently?

i listened to the whole album a couple of times on tidal. wilson is usually hard to judge. this time he simplified his songs. he's one of my favorite musicians of the last decade or so, but i simply find this record boring. (in wilson standards, of course - it's still nice to listen to it.)

i listened to the whole album a couple of times on tidal. wilson is usually hard to judge. this time he simplified his songs. he's one of my favorite musicians of the last decade or so, but i simply find this record boring. (in wilson standards, of course - it's still nice to listen to it.)

I find it pretty solid. Nothing really new to music or groundbreaking but then that wasn't my expectation.

Soundwise it's sonically beautiful. He's a fantastic producer and his mixes are always so alive and clean.

Overall, it's something nice to have other than that metal stuff he's been into for the longest time.

But I'd like to add that it cant be compared to what influenced him on this record; Tears for Fears, Prince, Kate Bush, ABBA.... his goal was to make something at that level, unfortunately he's not as good a composer as those artists were. What he calls "sophisticated pop", it really doesn't even scratch the surface of the creativeness those guys were all about.

i agree on the sound, too. recently i purchased some good sounding portable gear and these wilson records are among the best mixed and recorded materials of the loudness war years.

i can't tell if they are legit or just an interesting ripoff, but man, do they sound like a carbon copy of led zep.

I liketo follow rock music that comes out in 2017, these guys are one of my favorites from the young bannds along with Highly Suspect and Goodbye June, not a lot of good young rock bands out there at moment, mostly the vocalists and song writers nowadays have a terrible idea on what their musiic should sound like

Yes I did read it. I figured that was the reason but let's be honest here, in the end it's about money too.

I'm really happy for him though, and I'm hoping this somehow makes a dent at the contemporary music scene in terms of bringing creative and without boundaries music back to the mainstream. Generic pop has gone as far as it can go I hope.

Foo Fighters has always been 50/50 for me. Some really catchy and cool tunes and some meh but I do like this album quite a bit. So Beatlesish at times. Nice vocal harmonies and good choice of guitar timbres.
