Personally, I don't like the term indie - at least in its current usage - in regards to music because it's too broad. Plus, mainstream acts that try to copy the so-called "indie style" and still refer to themselves as indie, does it really mean independent anymore or have they warped the term to refer to the way the music sounds?
Indie pop for example (at least the type that's big currently) I'd much rather refer to as synthpop, electropop, even chillwave or something like that. At least then it's certainly identified by the sound. And I do like some of it though I listen to a wide variety of music.
Anytime I hear Misfits, Sex Pistols, Ramones etc it's always a flashback to my early teens.
And then all the people around when I was that age who thought that Avril Lavigne and Good Charlotte were punk.
