Messi used to be one of the most injury-prone players. Same as DP, but he hasn't been injured in like 5 years. Injuries can be managed and prevented IMO. Not all obviously but still..

Just get him. We're talking about someone who can give AT LEAST 4 years at the highest level, but I'm expecting even 5 or 6.

12 months left of his Arsenal contract, he likes Juventus, his wife doesn't want to move to Manchester.... He's hungrier for success than ever before in his career...

Guys, this is a no-brainer.

The signs do look convincing. But I think were reading waaaaaay too much into it. Didn't robben say that were a great club too recently?? Then what happened.

Robben quashed the speculation pretty quickly, though. RVP could've done the same by now. And besides, I think it was easier for Robben to "turn us down", because I don't believe there was any genuine interest in him on our part.

Yeah me too. It obviously never was any deal with him, but I don't remember him being linked either. I drink alot, though.

Rafa was back in 07/08 time, when we got promoted. Before he moved to Madrid.

“All I can say is that it is my intention to have a great Euro 2012 and win it. I also want to continue playing in the Champions League.”

RvP trolling Spurs fans? :D

Good game, Northern Ireland are absolute shite though. They had James McPake making his debut in defence, the guy couldn't even get in the Coventry team last season. He's the bald headed guy throwing himself in front of every shot. And Sammy Clingan as captain   Terrible team.

Aberdeen's Rory McArdle came on when it was 5-0 and did a great job of stemming the tide. :p

The VdV deal was happening around the time Nedved was contemplating retirement, but we didn't really see it through ourselves. Because if I remember, Secco shifted a lot of that focus on to Diego and Melo, coz we also were soon to be faced with a change of coach.

The RvP deal is different in many ways. There is a genuine need gap with the departure of Alex. The club has dedicated a certain amount of resources to plugging that gap in some way, and thatnwould make it pretty obvious that it would be filled by a big, marketable name. Especially when you consider, the club has genuinely karked out a plan for its resurgence, as seen in the scudetto winning season, somethting we didnt have for the last 6 years. RvP fits the profile, and off all the people we are linked with, comes within our budget as far as club valuation goes, his situation is the least stable of the others we are regularly linked with, Cavani, Higuain and Suarez. All of whom, are seemingly happy to stay where they are. His visit to Torino for a short period of time, before flying out to join his team for Euros are all signs that this is a mutually beneficial deal to both parties. He's 29, wants to win, wants a winning club. The fit is there. The only realistic obstacle could be his the settlement of his wage demands. We will break the bank with his wages, but to what extent remains the question. If we were wllin to pay Aguero 7.5m last season, and we have Ibra at 12m, then I don't see why somebody of this quality cannot expect at least 7-8m, coming from a more commercial league. Its an image thing, that wont hurt Juve either. Football is different from what it used to be when were on top in 06. Teams like ManCity, PsG,, Chelsea and even Malaga to a small extent, have changed the game since then. Will be a folly to think the club will get an a-grade superstar within such a salary cap.

totally agree! I wish he was younger like Higuain and Cavani but we need someone who can fill into Ale's boots and we don't have time to settle the player. We need an immediate influence in the striker department - we get it if we buy Van Persie. Plus with all my respect to Higuain and Cavani because i love them as players and really want them here, but we need someone with a very high marketing value and only Van Persie will provide it.
And smth else - considering we have very intelligent midfielders who very often go for the through pass, Van Persie will benefit most with his runs and ability to avoid offsides.
