About his age, though...

When Zlatan went to Milan he was the exact same age as RVP is now. How come it's OK for Milan to splash 25 million on a top player and then put him on 12m euros in wages, and we can't pay the same transfer fee and put RVP on 7m per season? What's so wrong about this deal? I don't buy the "he's too frail"-stuff, because he's obviously past his injury problems now. The fittest player in the Premier League last season. And he's a world class striker. Technical, full of flair, and what a finisher he is.

This should be in every page of the thread to stop people saying that he is a risk and injury prone.

I have played 60 games this season, I have not missed a single league match for Arsenal.

Van Persie has had his problems with injuries in the past, but last season he ran more miles than any other player in the Premier League - a stat which he believes helps explain his improvement in fitness.

The Dutchman added: “Stats don’t tell you the whole story, but it does prove my fitness at Arsenal and in the Premier League.

I feel fitter than ever before. I don’t need time to recover either after a match.”

Only-Juve, one more serious injury could pretty much be the end of any of these players prolific scoring ability. That's the risk you take when spend 25M+ on any one player - if they don't perform, you're in big trouble. We've been there recently - not with injuries, but with the incompatibility issues, or whatever you want to call Melo and Diegos situations.

*Edit - sorry this point was very loose with me bringing up incompatibility, but the overall point was that any big move carries considerable risk - I'm sure you get that. As for resale value, that shouldn't be our primary focus for every purchase - this team has a nice blend of young and old, and Juventus is built to win right now. *

Salvatore, I see what you're saying, but some of those years were due to competition, and others to freak accidents. For what it's worth, he has played 80 games for Arsenal over the past two seasons. That's pretty decent, especially when you consider the 59 goals and 22 assists during those games. Not. Too. Shabby. He's obviously been key for the Netherlands as well, although Wiki doesn't give me specific stats for him there over the past two years.

*Edit - It actually does give the Ned statistics for goals and appearances (not assists), but they don't sink up exactly with the club years. Over the previous 4 years (before 2012) he played 40 games - never more than 11, or less than 9. So over the past two seasons, you can basically estimate that he's played around 100 matches total. *

The injury thing would be more of a concern for me if it was a lot of recent muscle issues (which can often signal that a player hasn't learned how to take care of his body for the rigors of professional footy/sports), or if he had a history of some severe ligament and tendon damage in his knees, ankles, etc. He missed what... 6-8 weeks after the Chiello tackle? Something like that?

There are no recurring issues, guys, this player doesn't have one type of injury that keeps flaring up, and I haven't seen any info that suggests he's had any of the major surgeries that should really worry us. No degenerative issues, etc.

I really don't think he's realistic for us anyway - I think we'd be extremely fortunate to get any of the rumored CF guys (Cavani/Higuain/RvP/Dzeko). They all have tremendous scoring records, all provide the necessary star power.

Anyway , the injury history wouldn't preclude me from buying the best striker in the EPL. Especially given that most players of that caliber move for at least 40M, and haven't been too excited about moving to Serie A in recent years (for a host of reasons).
Interesting  To be honest, I was just looking at the number of appearances he had each season and it was enough to make me thing he'd be a liability. Even if he played 28+ games a season, I'd still be concerned about the 30 points that are still on offer in the other games and who would score the goals. I found a website that gave a little more info on his injury history (http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/robin-van-persie/profil/spieler_4380.html) but otherwise I didn't know much apart from Chiellini finishing him. There was a league table on number of injuries in the league last season and I think Juventus ended up with the lowest total, perhaps with no recurring issues and Conte will benefit RVP in many ways. And his wife doesn't have to live in ugly ugly Manchester!

I don't think at any point I've said I wouldn't be anything other very happy with him though (never giving up on my Gonzalo), the numbers you've provided are all you need for someone who hasn't seen him. Only if you guarantee he doesn't get injured :p

Unfortunately I cannot guarantee his health. I haven't acquired that power yet, but there's still time.

I feel ya. I've actually got a Cavani Fetish... Cavani than Higgy or Rvp, than Dzeko, order of preference. I just think that if there's a shot, and he's only 30M, we've just gotta pull that trigger. I can't see Lavezzi & Cavani being sold... and Cavani will be ridiculously priced if he is available. Higuain doesn't really seem available to me - he would pretty much have to force his way out (unless we opened the wallet up real wide?). Who knows.

A couple of my ex-roommates/close friends - who are brothers - are big Gunners fans. I have heard so much yapping over the years about Robin, and I can appreciate the player that he is. In the past it did seem like he was always hurt - he and Rosicky - but I never really followed too closely what the specific injuries were. More so just trying to dig stuff up now, so thanks for that link buddy. I was very quickly looking at xrays of ankles, but am a little burnt from vaporizing some blueberry kush at the moment, and wasn't processing some of that information particularly well. 2:50 am... and stunned.

Anyway, RvP would add a ton - he's absolutely class. Higgy is younger, will hold his value better if things don't work out, he's a great striker who will get better. Either would be amazing, but Robin is in the form of his life right now. I think I'm slightly biased, because I've watched him more, as well.

I do like the age, familiarity with the league, physicality, work ethic, volume production, and potential for improvement with Cavani most, though.

Actually, I like the idea of adding another Uruguayan or two... lots of quality there right now, they seem to generally play a nice, aggressive style. Gotta love Martin

Sorry for the expansive reply. Burnt rambling, clearly time for sleep.

Edit: Shit, almost forgot...

But Van Persie is not equal Zlatan's left leg.

I don't think so. He'll either end up staying or we'll convince him to move to Turin. The biggest deal here is going to have to be where he features on Conte's wish list in context to Cavani and Higuain.

I just cant see him leaving the EPL for a Serie A team. City will offer him more money, CL football and ambitions to win trophies (like us too TBF), and he doesnt have to change countries and adapt to a new lifestyle etc. We all know its going to end that way.

Interviewed by Turin daily Tuttosport, the Dutchman decided against commenting specifically about interest from the Old Lady.

“Juventus are a great team,” he smiled. “But I have agreed with Arsenal that I will not discuss my future.

“All I can say is that it is my intention to have a great Euro 2012 and win it. I also want to continue playing in the Champions League.”

The striker has just one year left on his contract in London and Juventus have made no secret of the fact that they intend to buy a top player in attack this summer.

“I’ve never felt so strong and I just want to continue winning,” added the former Feyenoord player who joined Arsenal in 2004.

“At this point in time all I want to do is focus on the European Championship. There will then be time to address other matters.”

LOL, I remember Aguero saying "Juve were a great team, bla bla bla" in a press conference at the Copa America last season ;). Just words.

One thing is for certain, he aint staying at Arsenal.
