Moggi was right about a loooot of things. But in this case, he's very wrong. Comparing RVP to Borriello is....

Help me, please, I can't find the word.

Then what would be a fair price if he now still had 2 years, instead of 1, on his contract?

50 perhaps?

Regardless, 25 million for a player who's, supposedly, desperate to leave; is on the last year of his contract (which he will not renew) is terribly steep. Even more so if you consider that player is on the wrong side of 25.

People may want a big name or a "top" striker, but paying 50 million for a 23 year old may just be a much cheaper option than paying 25 for Van Persie...
Depends on how many years you think he can offer the club. Drogba is an animal at 34 at the top of his game in the Champions League.

For once I have full confidence in our coaches and the physical preparation of our players. We had the fewest injuries last season, and they seem to know why players get injuries. Thanks to Rollie I also know that van Persie doesn't have any recurring injuries as well.

Van Persie is so much better than Suarez, it isn't even funny. Suarez runs alot but he absolutely zero brain cells. He losses the ball too much because he plays with his head down all the time. Van Persie was better than Suarez at his age too despite his injury problems

Moggi is an idiot for comparing Van Persie to that Donkey Boriello. Van Persie is more of a Van Basten/Bergkamp type player.

Well yeah, that's always the big question mark. What's not a question mark, is that his value (as for every player over 30) will start declining quite soon. You'd basically be signing him at the worst possible time.

From a sporting point of view, there's not much to argue about. From a financial (or economic, if you want) point of view, it makes little sense.

Haven't been following the transfer news that closely, so I don't know how real the RVP rumours are. But I personally think there's absolutely no way that we'll spend this much on a (foreign :D) 28 year old player in the last year of his contract.
While some of our recent moves on the market may not always have been a success on the field, there was usually sound financial thinking behind it (spreading costs, minimizing risks, net overall costs, (potential) sales value, etc). And I can't quite see how that would relate to RVP.

Oh, and I'd say Drogba is a bit of an exception. :D
Such a brilliant player...

I have a feeling, and I'm not just saying this for effect, but RvP may work better with Matri and Quag than Vuci because their movement is too similar. He is however the perfect CF for the kind of pressing football the midfield plays.

We would be getting a player from Arsenal, and given how popular they are that alone would add a lot of goodwill to Juve and imo compensates for lack of re-sale value. We are in need of a fuoriclasse and this mercato isn't like previous ones, now there is no Del Piero to lean back to. We need more than a quality player, we need a star player for whom more people are going to watch Juve games. Van Persie is established and ahead of Cavani and Dzeko in that perspective.
