I think Baggio's knees have always been hurting though. I think it has to do more with the fact that he has nothing else to do. I think he would be back next year knowing that he had a chance to make the national team. But whats the point of coming back once he scores the 200 goals? Its not like Brescia is going to win the championship and i'm sure baggio's tired of being in regulation battles.

Mate what has been the reaction in Italy so far? Any mention of the Euros? Any mention that there might be a chance that he will reconsider - if u look at the quote, he says that he is thinking this but its not 100%. Either way, thank u Giovanni Trappitoni, I hope you are a happy man today! A starting position for Baggio in the Euros would have been a perfect way to exit..

IMO is more like Vinny said, probably now the pain is too strong and 4 him isn't fun anymore to play...
The knees have always been hurting but is not just that... due to his knee pain he was forced to an unbelanced run who caused him other problems like "lombagia" "discopatia" sciatalgia" and also if the surgery of this summer went in a good way those things still there... and ther's probably nothing to do 4 it... he feels pain also while walking and driving, so if nothing will change (and as I understand it is impossible) IMO is better 4 him to quit. And don't forget he will be 37 in February so what he is loosing is one year maximum 2... while keep on playing may be very dangerous 4 his future life...

Reactions? Well is not the first time that Roby says that it will be his last season... but probably cause now he is injured his words had a big effect, peaple start to understand that is really true, Roby Baggio is really a human beeing, got "old" and will quit soccer  Of course everybody is sorry cause Baggio is the simble of soccer, ouer best player ever and the onlyone who is loved from all the teams fans... I'm sure everybody will try to convince him to go on, but if he really feels bad he will not change his mind... 4 him soccer is fun, passion and fantasy and he will not be himself if he will go in the field in too bad conditions...

4 the EURO... well Trap already close the door to Roby, and Roby too and now he is also injured so it will be stupid to start an other "fans revoluction" to see him in Portugal, what both media and peaple are pusching 4 now is too see him in Athens with the Olimpic NT... don't know if he will like the idea and if Gentile is agree but IMO it will be a very nice thing...

Brescia coach Manuel De Blasi is trying to persue Baggio to continue his career with brescia and not retire at the end of the season.

He was saying Roby was saying this only beacause the team is doing bad.

I'm sure that hurts too....

After Roby reaches his 200 goal milestone, what does he have left to play for ??????

Brescia will NEVER contend for the scudetto, or even a UEFA Cup spot

Roby will not be called for the Euro's

Whats left ???????????????????

Well I think is not someting about "what to reach"... Baggio has already reached the maximum, is years that he is already a soccer legend, the best ever of his country and one of the bests of soccer history.

The reason why he may go on playing is because this is his passion, he has fun with it, but as you said before if his physycal problems are so bad and the pain is strong that must not be so funny anymore....

De Biasi revealed that the day Roby released that interview he was very pissed and depressed cause the pain was particolary strong and he could hardly mouve so that may be the reason why he spoke that way while now after the break he feels better and he may recover in one or 2 weeks, so if the interview was today he probably will speak differently.
He said that himself and everybody in Brescia will do their best to make Roby change his mind and he added that in his opinion if the physical problems will leave him alone that may be possible.

Let's see... everybody in Italy was so upset 4 Roby words... and so many peaple from soccer and not spoke out to convince him not to quit... is impressing how mutch he means 4 soccer and 4 his country.

IMO is difficolt that he will decide to go on and I think that at 37 and after 7 surgery he has all the rights to decide to retire but the later the better cause Italian soccer will not be the same without him. It is nearly 20 years that he is "the everybody favourite". He is the onlyone loved by everybody indipendely of the jersey he is wearing, the simble, the king. He will be impossible to replace and Italian soccer without him will be like a pizzeria who do not serve pizza anymore... So one more year will be largely apreciated ;)

Hey... I was looking at "Corriere della Sera" homepage and I found out they have the video of Roby interview! This is the only site in which I saw it!
This is the link: http://www.corriere.it/Primo_Piano/Sport/2003/12_Dicembre/29/baggio.shtml
And to see the video you have to click this "rilasciate in esclusiva alla televisione bresciana Teletutto".
There is also photogallery in that page :)
Here is a recent picture of Roby and his family... My god how his kids grew up

I know that Baggio is hurting but one more year would be just grand. As I said in my earlier post, he made it known early in the season that Brescia needed 5-6 new players to create a strong team including a good goalie. I think the past three months have been very difficult and has played a big part in his decision. The next month will be big though. I think if Brescia goes out and is active in the transfer market and they play well, he could maybe reconsider. If they play this poorly, he is gone. With that said though, it seems obvious that if he does play, it will be only with Brescia. Look at how much the owner, coach, and fans in that city respect him and want him to stay part of the organization. I can't see Baggio leaving for another team in Serie A. What if Mazzone came back to Brescia? Anybody know why he left for Bologna? The worst part is, Baggio is still the best player in the league. He can still play with the best of them, and that is why its so hard for fans to come to grips with. Its not like he's lost his skill. I hope he changes his mind!!! If not, anybody here is going to go to the San Siro for his last game?

Is not cleare why Mazzone left Brescia, probably he had some controversial with the president... I don't think he will come back...
I am agree with you: if the pain will leave Roby alone and the team will do a good second part of the league he may go on... but I'm afraid it's difficolt that both the condition will happen, especially the first... cause yes Baggio still with no dubt the most skillful player around but remember that he is 36 and he is physically "destroyed", he had 7 knee surgerys, and it's a miracle that he didn't stop way before so no surprise if he will really do it at the end of the season
I am from Milan so of course I will do my best to go to the Milan-Brescia match ;) especially if it will be Roby last!

BAGGIO TO THE EUROS!!! I hope Traps was watching today. This is what I mean Mate - in a day and age where superstars don't live up to their reputation, Baggio always does. This is rare in soccer today, to be as consistent as him, thats why he should not give it up yet. ONE MORE YEAR would make a lot of people happy. Call me crazy, but i think Baggio and Brescia will build on this win today. Hopefully they can take out Lazio next week. Are people still talking about his retirement Mate? Here in Canada, it has been a hot topic, so many people have come forward on messageboards to state their sadness that he is leaving. Roby has threatened to quit before but its never been this serious I think. Hopefully Brescia can convince him to stay one more year. How nice would it be if Baggio starts scoring again like he did with Bologna and Traps is forced to bring him. If u look, he already has five goals, has played less games that those in the top ten in scoring, and he's missed i think two penalty shots this year.

Baggio reconsiders retirement?

Roberto Baggio scored a brace and set up another two for Brescia today, but admits he could reconsider his retirement.

“The idea of hanging up my boots is tormenting me,” confessed the Divine Ponytail. “There are another four months of this season and we shall see, but at the moment I intend to retire then.”

Baggio will turn 37 years of age in February and announced during the Christmas break that this would be his last campaign.

However, his stunning performance in Brescia’s 4-2 win over Siena this afternoon showed that he still has a lot to give the football world.

“My dream is to score 200 Serie A goals,” he continued when picking up his Man of the Match award, “and to be of use to Brescia. After that we shall see.”

The two goals he scored at the Stadio Rigamonti today took his total career tally in the top flight to 198.

There are rumours that one way of convincing Baggio to extend his remarkable career could be to tempt him back into the Azzurri shirt.

A return to the senior squad for Euro 2004 is impossible, but he could be called up as one of three additions to the Under-21 side taking part in the 2004 Olympics.

Brazil are considering a similar strategy with Ronaldo, Romario and Roberto Carlos touted for a place, but until now Italy boss Claudio Gentile has denied he will bring along any over-age players.

Yea, I am glad that he score, I heard that he would make 200 goals before he retired next season (If I am not mistaken) :)
The world would miss one of football legend....

This man simply cannot retire at the end of this season.

Hey, how about this.

Imagine if Juve had Baggio matched up with DP. How good would this team be in attack then??

Never gonna happen though:down:

Mark: I know that Baggio to the EUROS will be wonderful cause when he is phisically ok he still the best and he can really win maches alone but belive me is impossible cause of Trap (the relation with him after what it happened 4 the WC is too bad) and also other things like 4 example others players... if Roby will be back all the spotlight will be on him and can you immagine Totti???
Of course the Roby retirment is what every sport lover is talking about in this days in Italy, and all the media are focused on that... most thinks he must change idea and continue but others think that 4 a superstar like him the best thing is to retire when you are still so shiny and while everybody is praying you not to do it... Personaly I hope he will go on one more year cause a player like him will never be born again so I want to see him as long as possible and also I'm sure that he will stay at top at list one more year. Seeing how good he is doing now I don't see how is possible that he can be "struggling" in just one year...

About the Olimpics: Now everybody is pusching to see Roby to the olimpics... but when asked he said he doesn't know if it is a good idea and that he is not thinking about it. Well let's see... If also the others NT will take some stars will be nice, if not I don't think so cause will be a bit unsporty...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course all the newspapers gave Roby 9 or 10 for his perfomance and I let you imagine the comments :extatic:

Unuseful also to report what De Biasi, the teammates, Brescia president and all the pro-Baggio peaple like Mazzone, Rivera, Boniperti, ecc... said ;) but is funny to see what Papadopulo (Siena coach) said: "Brescia is a team that for 10/11 is ouer level but there is an "extraterrestre" in it and there was nothing we could do against him" :D

Here are the hightligts of the match:

mate u are absolutely right. i remember reading that before the world cup in 2002, totti was quoted as saying that if baggio joins the team for the tournament, he has to learn to keep his mouth shut and know his role and not cause problems like he did on the bench in 1998. Who is Totti to talk like that? He is a very talented player but he needs to learn some humility and respect. Just last week he made a comment about Gattusso getting a vote over him for the Golden Ball award. In my opinion, Trap has built the national team around Del Piero and Totti and both have flopped. I know it would never happen, but imagine Baggio backing up Inzaghi and Vieri, with maybe Totti and Del Piero in mid-field as well. I would definately put my money on Italy! I have a funny feeling though that Baggio will be on fire against Lazio this week.

I would like to know what's that weird talk about Baggio going to the Olympics?! :dazed: People have really gone insane, although I think this is more a work of the media than the rest of nation :groan: No offence, but Olympic games are not thát big, at least not when it comes to football. Sure, it's a great achievment if you win the gold, but who remembers the past golds in football won on Olympic games? Noone, ok maybe a few  IMVHO it's a VERY cheap way to say thanks to him for all he has done and I don't approve!!!

I agree Nina. I'll say it one more time, we want to see EuroBaggio!!
But in all fairness, I think its more what Mate said, if other countries start bringing two or three of there star players, than Baggio would be the best to represent Italy. But I just read on channel4 website that he's not even thinking about that right now. Only time will tell I guess.
