Kovac back to Juve after Dinamo deal collapses

Croatia defender Robert Kovac has backed out of a deal negotiated earlier this month to play for Dinamo Zagreb, the club said Wednesday.

Dinamo "gave up on bringing Robert Kovac into its ranks because it could not meet his demands," it said in a statement.

According to local media, Dinamo could not guarantee to pay an agreed three-year contract worth six million euros (8.1 million dollars), even in case of possible injuries to the 33-year-old.

Dinamo's sporting director Zoran Mamic said last week that Kovac had agreed to play for the reigning Croatian champions after securing his transfer from Italian giants Juventus.

"I had a few demands and Dinamo did not meet them. Since this deal has failed, I am returning to Turin," said Kovac, adding his Juventus contract lasted another two years.

i was thinking ideally we would have boumsong and cristcio on the bench as backups with maybe legro. But Kovac could be a better player for that backup role.

I thought that it was a done deal. Oh well, like Jack says, we can use him as a back up.

Dortmund Sign Robert Kovac
Dortmund look set to have found Real Madrid bound Christoph Metzelder's replacement.

After being unsuccessful in their attempts to sign centre back David Rozehnal from Paris St. Germain, Borussia Dortmund have succeeded in signing Robert Kovac from Juventus.

The 33 year old will move on a free transfer and put his name to a two year deal. Although the player’s contract with Juve still runs through to 2009, he will not cost Dortmund anything.

Kovac is seen as the ideal man to fill the void left by the departure of Metzelder.

His talent is well known in the Bundesliga having been seen as one of the best defenders in the league during his time at Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

He brings the experience of 221 Bundesliga appearances with him, as well as 50 games in the Champions’ League.

He will add maturity and experience to a Dortmund back line filled with young players.

The club will be delighted to have clinched this signing after their failure to land Rozehnal. BVB were not prepared to pay more than €3.6 million for the Czech defender, who is now tipped to join Newcastle.

Here, he said that today, how did he end up with Dortmund? How could he check in for a flight to Turin and board on a plane to Dortmund?
